"If Life Eats You, You Better Drink The Life!"
Starting with a salute to the spirit of this film's maker and Vinay Pathak.
Due to some travelling I could not catch this movie in cinema hall. I had gone to booking counter to know if it was there, after 2 weeks. Very few people watched it but those who watched, in 100% recommend this movie and I grew despo to catch this one. There are very few actors today who are guarantee a good movie, and Vinay Pathak is among those few gems.
Finally I watched Dasvidaniya on a pirated DVD in good print!
Storyline is not new. Its same as Anand, same as Kal Ho Na Ho but if not an as great as Anand, its definitely notches ahead and better than Kal Ho Na Ho. **In our lives actually all stories are same. The difference is made when the way its told. Dasvidaniya tells the same story which perfect narration, heart touching way that by the end of the movie you are smitten by the charm of the movie and its protagonist.
Its about a simple middle class man Amar whose dreams are lost into the piles of files in his clerical job, like millions of Amars, forgetting lives. Its very well summed up in one dialogue from the movie where Amar is told about cancer and he gets into dipression and then comes his soul who tells him that his kind of people die very long before and the clinical reports are just printout statements! They actually don't know what is a life, with their real wishes converting into coal under sedimentation.
His inner fills different view for life and asks him to prepare a wishlist of real life not about payment of electricity bills, or repair of cooler or buy vegetables etc. And then he makes a list of his life..get a new car, confess his old love, learn guitat, visit abroad, meet his best friend of life, make love, get his slitted brother back and get his photo printed in new paper so that world could know about his existence.
This all may look very common or expected to you but mind it its not. The treatment of the scenes with utmost honesty and from bottom of heart, you will scent it definitely.
The added advantage to this movie non-sympathetic treatment of the protagonist by himself, his soul laughing on himself and propping him up to do some real wish list making and fulfilling it. For every new task from the wishlist the funny soul would give the protagonist some new name like ...Lover Boy when he falls in love, Fattu Kaul when he was going to confess his old love, Rock Star etc etc. Here the protagonist is not a looser, he is a winner and who departs away from the world with a Goodbye which equalled a Baarat ..sending gifts to all those who made his wishes come true!
The movie has been executed very very well and got excellent support from every department. Screenplay is fast. Situations are excellent ... be it office scenes, car purchase, love confession, suicide attempt, ...the movie is an array of very touching moments one after another.
I personally liked few scenes very much. The ineractions between pathak and his soul which always called him dabbu with dialogues like . Sale tu hai hi dabbu...duniya ussi ko dabati hai jo dabta hai..chahe wo batan ho, switch ho, ghanti ho. His outlook was smashingly funny with his equally funny dialogues even in tragic moments which makes you see tragedy otherwise.
Sameway the scene where Pathak gets frustrated with his life and tries to suicide and a girl saves him, keeps him and falls in love with. This scene is in fact extraordinary one.
The scene where he confesses Neha Dhupia while draining in Rain.
Or the scene when he takes his mom for the first drive on his brand new car.
Everything was perfect. **Every song were very good specially Alvida by Kailash Kher. Direction is superb. Every actor be even the smallest role one or the russian girl...all did full justice to their acts....Shourey in friendly sppearance also left imprint......everything about this movie was wonderful becuase....
It was wonderful stellar performance by Vinay Pathak...his tremendous expressions changing terrificly in every scene, keeping you eyes almost moist...making you laugh while you cry** ....his all facial expressions going more powerful than dialogues so much that he made the life of scriptwriter easy. watch him for every scene and his body language accordingly. This is called acting....he did not need overtly laud expression of SRK of Kal Ho Na Ho...and he towered like anything with this ballastic performance.....so much so that it will look that he has entered into you or its you there!
This movie is no doubt a great one ... but it could not be imagined without Pathak.
There are some Dasvidaniya which you always remember deep in your heart.
Absolutely the best movie of this year so far. Don't miss this masterpiece!
