I am a huge movie fan, so when I saw this preview in the theaters, I instantly had to see it.
Dark Water, was written by the same person who wrote the ever so popular The Ring. This movie stars Jennifer Connelly(Dahlia Williams), who is a woman who recently got a divorce with her husband. They live in New York, with one young daughter named Ceci. The ex couple do not get along, and the husband is less than pleased when Dahlia goes to move across New York, away from her ex-husband.
As Dahlia looks for apartments, she sees a small, run down apartment that needs a lot of work. The only reason that Dahlia moves into the apartment is because Ceci is in love with it.
After they settle in, the notice that in the bedroom, there is a dark leak spot on the ceiling. Dahlia is concerned and asks the fix it man, who says the man who sold the house to her will fix it.
Dahlia gets a job as a secretary in a medical office, and Ceci starts school with a bright start. But things in the apartment are not as well. Ceci begins to talk to her imaginative friend, who is by the water leak. Her teachers are concerned and Dahlia tells Ceci to drop the imaginative friend, but she continues to talk to her and have weird behaviour.
Dahlia, who has had a past of her parents leaving her and abuse, begins to have violent flashbacks and she becomes distressed. She begins to sleep for hours and hours, then waking up completely confused. The leak begins to spread, and the fix it man says it's because of the teenagers that break into the apartment upstairs, which has been left with it's possessions for years.
Ceci goes to her fathers house for a while, and Dahlia gets so upset with the leaking above her, that she decides to go to the apartment and finds it full of furniture, nick nacks and completely flooded. Dahlia begins to have flashbacks of her mother yelling at her.
As the movie progresses, strange things begin to happen. The ending was interesting, and quite shocking. Although, I thought the ending was a little rushed.
The acting was very good in my opinion. Jennifer Connelly did a very good job for her role as a loving, depressed, determined mother.
I recommend this movie. It was a little disappointing, but it was very entertaining.
The plot was interesting and the special effects were pretty good!
You should see this movie, but don't expect too much out of it.
