The Story:
Mandawa, a culturally rich town in Rajasthan witnesses a prey who is targeting young and unmarried women who are not from a well to do families. Dahaad is an epic tale of how being unmarried by a certain age for women can lead them into peer pressure and fall for a stranger who they barely even know. Vijay Verma, shown as a family man who has a wife and a son has a dark side to himself. A college professor by profession turns into a serial killer who enjoys killing his victims. The web-series revolves around the life of Vijay Verma and the Rajasthan Police, who are clueless about the killings of women in Mandawa and other towns. The plot keeps unfolding with each episode as the story is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat.
The Review:
In a very long time, I can say that Dahaad has surprised me in every possible aspect. This eight episode web-series is a gripping tale that is raw and captured in an intense and thrilling manner. The star cast chosen for this web-series is a perfect blend of cinematic talent. Sonakshi Sinha playing the roleof a police officer has perfectly delved deep into her character and definitely shines bright as a stern and loyal cop. On the other hand, Sohum Shah who also is a police officer is shown as someone who has his own short coming and personal issues. I really liked the character of Gulshan Devaiah who is seen playing the role of a senior police inspector who is in charge of the Mandawa Police Station.
But for me personally, Vijay Verma who played the role of the serial killer shines bright throughout the series. Maintaining the on-screen intensity while balancing between family and professional life merely leaves him with very little time. The makers have opted for a place that is rich in culture and heritage. Yes, I am talking about Mandawa. While we speak about the location, the cinematography is beautiful as it captures the aesthetics and raw side of the old town in Rajasthan.
Each episode has its own touch of brilliance to it as it surely manages to keep the audience glued to the screen. The transition from one episode to another is also really well strategized as it keeps the viewers intrigued and wanting more. The screenplay is intelligently written, offering a realistic portrayal of Rajasthan Police and the challenges they face in solving this case. The filmmaker has very strategically handpicked the star cast and each one has delivered a brilliant on-screen performance.
The dialogue is sharp and engaging, effectively conveying the high-stress nature of the characters' work. The plot twists and turns, keeping the audience guessing and engaged until the very end. In addition to its thrilling storyline and strong performances, Dahaad also touches upon relevant themes such as trust, loyalty, and the moral dilemmas faced by those involved in police work and public safety.
What Works for Dahaad:
Vijay Varma's raw and intense character, the gripping storyline with some strong and brilliant on-screen performances, and relevant themes.
All-in-All:
Dahaad is an excellent take on a murder-thriller that causes the public trust to fade away. Dahaad and the entire star cast has managed to deliver an excellent thriller drama that is being loved by many. This is a perfect binge watch over a weekend with family and friends. If you are someone who loves a good murder-thriller with an engaging plot, I highly-recommend you to watch Dahaad.
