I was surprised when I didn't find Dabur Red in the list of toothpastes already up for review in mouthshut. But I was so pleased with this offering from Dabur, that I couldn't resist putting up a request for adding it there. Why? Read on.

I am person who tends to get bored of anything rather reasily. And particularly, when it comes to cosmetics like soaps, shampoos, face washes, etc.(given the plethora of options flooding the market) I rarely stick to certain product. And especially when it comes to toothpaste, I don't remember having repeated any twice in a row; not till I came across Dabur Red!

I must confess that I’m biased towards any product which reads Ayurvedic or Natural. And that’s why, on one of the trips through the aisles of Big Bazaar, I picked up Dabur Red. An unusual name, I thought, but then realized this was perhaps Dabur’s way of repackaging it’s once flagship product – Dabur Laal Dantmanjan – for an urban market.

The unusual colour of the paste might at first make you resistant to try it, but this is one product which grows on you as you keep using it. The dominant flavour of Cloves(Laung) and Mint(Pudina) is much like the earthy smell that emanates from the wet soil after a first rain.

To be honest, I’m no dental expert so I can’t comment on the efficacy of this product in keeping tooth decay at bay.(For that matter, toothpastes are a hyped product altogether and many other factors - like foods we eat, how often we rinse our mouth during the day, smoking, water intake, etc.– contribute more to oral hygiene). But Dabur Red does give a crisp feeling of freshness, which lingers on long after you’ve brushed. I don’t think the CloseUp and Pepsodent gels inundating the market today are anywhere near the product.

In terms of cost too, I think Dabur Red is reasonably priced. A suggestion, if anyone at Dabur is listening, is that they can have a better quality toothbrush as part of a package that comes with the toothpaste. Also I think this genuine product has not really gotten the promotion it deserves. So it’s my way of giving Dabur Red its two cents of popularity.
