Dabang se yaad aya- ye movie blockbuster kaise bann gai :-p
Yesterday I finally got to watch the much awaited movie of the year. A decent movie that broke several box office records. The Khan starer movie that out shined the other two big hits of the year, MNIK and 3 Idiots, in terms of profit and popularity.
Dabangg means the audacious soul who believes in calling a spade a spade! Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, the movie is set in rural UP depicting the corruption and dirty politics that prevails in a local village. It also highlights the conflicts between a father and his step son, the element of jealousy between step brothers and corruption that prevails in the police system.
The star cast:
Salman Khan play the lead role of Chulbul Pandey, a corrupt police officer, in the movie and manages to impress viewers with his comic timing and acting skills.
Arbaaz Khan plays the role of Makhan Singh, step brother of Chulbul Pandey. He is subjected to ridicule by Chulbul Pandel throughout the movie and his decision to take revenge results in unexpected outcomes. Arbaaz Khan also manages to impress viewers with his acting skills.
Vinod Khanna and Dimple Kapadia play the role of the parents of Chulbul and Makhan Pandey. Although their roles were brief, they managed to leave a strong impact. Vinod Khanna acted wonderfully as the strict step father and Dimple Kapadia managed to showcase motherly love effectively throughout the movie.
Newcomer and daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha , Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Rajo. Rajo is the sister of a private assistant of a prominent politician. She lives with her father who is a drunkard, played by Mahesh Manjrekar . Chulbul Pandey finds her attractive and here is when the love story begins. Sonakshi Sinha manages to give a fair performance.
Sonu Sood plays the role of the bad guy named Chhedi Singh, a local youth leader of the ruling political party. The dialogue delivery and negative vibes complement with the well chiseled body of Sonu Sood. He manages to impress us with his acting skills in a negative role. Chhedi Singh tries to befriend Chulbul Pandey but it doesnt work out and this when the rivalry begins.
Om puri, Anupam Kher and Tinu Anand play small but prominent roles in the movie. Malaika Arora features herself effectively in the item number- "Munni Badnaam hui".
Songs:
The songs and music were average but the humorous lyrics and the item number managed to keep the viewers entertained. I personally liked the song "Tere must must do nain". :-) The Munni Badnam hui song was humorous! At least for me :-)
Pros:
Salman Khan's acting and perfect comic timing along with the use of typical rural UP accent really impressed me. The jokes were quite original and ringtone dance was the icing on the cake...:-D
The other stars managed to give decent performances. Sonu Sood impressed us with his acting in a negative role. Arbaaz did justice to his role as Chulbul Pandeys brother.
Cons:
There was nothing original about the story. The same old rivalry between the audacious police officer and the arrogant villain!
The songs and music were not up to the mark although the background music associated with Chulbul panday was quite amusing.
Overall, I found the movie average. It is a one time watch and I will give it a rating of 2.5 stars out of 5.
