The Return of Salman Khan. Review on Dabangg

Warning: People who think a lot while watching a film & try to find logic behind everything that happens on the screen, are requested to stay away from DABANGG as they will be hugely disappointed with the film. Because the film is made by keeping the masses in mind with only one agenda - to entertain the viewers.

Having said that I am not trying to put the film in the category of class cinema or trying to call it a masterpiece in entertainment. But the film is made with such care that majority of people will undoubtedly put the film in the category of timepass flicks for sure. Its a paisa wasool kind of film.

Producer Arbaaz Khan deserves full marks for doing a thorough study of Salman Khan's strength before creating the main character of the film, kept full faith in his efforts and full confidence in Salman Khan to play the role to perfection. The final result is a delight to watch with Salman doing full justice to the role.

Ladies & gentlemen, meet Salman Khan, the heart and soul of DABANGG, playing the main character of corrupt cop Chulbul Pandey with panache and utmost maturity. His looks, his body language, everything that he does on screen is different from his earlier films. It's a great leap towards maturity in acting as his well known showoff attitude is completely missing in the film. This time he appears as an actor & acts so well that this can be called the return of Salman Khan, the actor.

The film set up in Laalgarh, a place in Uttar Pradesh is about Salman Khan who is the step-son of Vinod Khanna & has a step brother played by his real life brother Arbaaz Khan. A corrupt politician Sonu Sood (without prejudice - I don't know why we have to use the adjective CORRUPT in front of the word politician, when it is understood to all).

As far as the story of the film goes, there is nothing new in it as we have heard & seen it umpteen times. Misunderstanding between the family members. Exploitation by the politicians. And in the end good wins over evil. Sounds good and predictable. Isn't it?

Yes, it is predictable as almost everything happens as you predicted except one suspense that unites the family and it comes as a shock because it was not expected. In fact this brings the new life to film and takes it to a different level, where you expect nothing except a grand action packed finale. And you will have to watch the final 20 minutes to know the outcome. I can only define it as: mind blowing - thanks to the presence Salman Khan.

Even though people have loved the music of the film but to me it was a mixed bag. The song Munni badnaam hui, is though a delight to watch as far as the dance & foot tapping beats are concerned but when it comes to the lyrics part, it sounds 'B' grade. The only song that makes an impact & stays in your mind is 'Tere mast mast do nain', which is brilliantly written, choreographed & performed on screen.

The photography is good. The standards of dialogues are average to good as they are written in lighter manner with no overdose of high voltage drama in it. The best part is that they don't get to your nerves but they do make you smiles at times.

The action scenes are the highlight of the film, especially the fight scenes at railway station and in the climax. After a longtime I have seen some raw action scenes in Hindi cinema, which at times cannot be digested but the amount of whistles & claps that they have managed to attract speaks volume about it's success.

Why did Tinnu Anand & Om Puri accept their roles in the film is a mystery. As there is nothing for them to do.

Mahi Gill has all the reasons to accept such small roles as she is still struggling to make an impact in Bollywood. She does well in a small role.

Dimple Kapadia’s voice was strange but she did a good job. Vinod Khanna in a small role did well to whatever was given to him.

Anupam Kher appears in two scenes and then was blown up by bomb.

Sonu Sood does well as the bad man. This film for him would be what Maine Pyar Kiya was to Mohnish Behl. We do look forward to see more of him on screen.

Sonakshi Sinha makes a confident debut in Bollywood. Good luck to her for the bright future.

Director Abhinav Kashyap announces his arrival as a man who has studied the pulse of the public (read as masses). He has handled the run-off-the-mill stuff with style and has incorporated the roles of all the actors well to suit the full length of the lead actor. The premises chosen by him to narate the story is commendable too.

In short, this is not a great film but is a good film that becomes watchable due to the magical performance by Salman Khan, who will definitely increase his fan following with this film. He is flawless and make you fall in love with him. Watch it for him.
