1st of all I am a kanjoose internet user.. count evety hour I sit online.. n more.. I always try to utilize the BANDWIdTH by downloading something all the time, never let my modems idle just for chatting [ even ritenow I am downloading zone alarm update as I am writing this review hehehe]
I have two modems, 1 ] d-link sm 56 internal[ motorola chipset]
2 ] gvc 56k speakerfone external...
I , myself has worked as a computer assembler for a while now, so what I have experianced abt sm 56
Many people always complain about internal modem... but there never be a problem with modem.. for internal modems...
1]it should be PROPERLY INSTALLED..
2] SM56 IS BIT DIFFICULT TO INSTALL WITH WINDOWS 98/ME.
3] WORKS BEST with windows 2000/xp... no saperate drivers for xp are available.. 2000 drivers works for xp.
4] this modem has the best error control hardware, so , it never disconnects while working.. plus always gives steady performance.
I get the same download speed for following conditions... [ aprox 4.5 kbps]
When my internal modem is connected at the speed of 33.2kbps or
When my external modem is connected at 48.8 kbps speed
Good na? sm 56 is really a good performer...
Best part of internal modem is need no external power supply... consumes no extra space... plus you get one com port free .. good benifits na ?
But sm 56 if not properly installed [ specially in 98/me] is little problem some in disconnection... sometimes fails to disconnect n keeps your line busy, otherwise it always takes 3 to 6 secs to dicsonnect.... I dont know why, so I will really reommend this modem for you as I have seep poor performances of other internal modems.. I suggest you that please please please dont buy mercury, quantam internal modems....
