Hey guys,

This is my review on the wi-fi pocket router from d-link. My 7 year old Asianet dataline internet connection had expired and so I opted to go with bsnl wimax for a change. I was surprised to find out that bsnl did not provide a router with the wimax connection and so had no other option but spend around another 2500 on buying a router. So off I went to the local duty free electronics store. The options I had were from i-ball, digisol, d-link, tp-link, netgear and belkin. Since I didnt know anyone else who had a wimax connection, I thought it best to buy the iball baton because two of my cousins own them and they knew how to configure it and setup the connection. So I ball was my first choice.

Unfortunately, the I ball baton is a modem cum router and hence has input  capability from only the RJ11 telephone cable line whereas the wimax connection came with an RJ45 Lan cable. So the iball was out of option. I had heard that the belkin and netgear routers are a bit complex to configure and hence opted out. The only other brand I had heard about before was the d-link and that was the sole reason I opted for it. When I enquired about the price, the dealer qouted the lowest possible price as 2200rs. I thought I could get it for cheaper from flipkart, so I told him I will buy it the next day and left. Lo and behold, when I checked on flipkart, it was being sold at a price of around Rs1800. So I ordered one and it arrived 4 days later. I have been using it since September and I am extremely happy with its performance.

Basic details are as follows:-

DWR-113 is a WiFi 150N pocket router which just requires a modem connection or a USB Adaptor like mblaze or other 3g service providers to connect you to internet with blazing fast speed. It supports USB dongles up to HSPA+.

It connects with the Universal Plug and Play(UPnP) technology which allows it to get installed on the system within minutes. I got it running in around 20 mins  and you dont have to be some computer genius to figure it out. There is no installation disk at it does not need one.

The router features includes NAT, Routing, Firewall, VPN pass-through, WPS, Auto-3G-Dial-Up Backup Connection, DHCP Server and so on.

It has Web User interface which makes its management easy and simple. All you have to do is type the link provided in the manual in the browser address bar and it will take you to system config.

D-Link DWR-113 3G WiFi Router complies to IEEE 802.11n/b/g standard for WLAN.

4 LAN ports and WAN based connections allow multiple devices to share one internet connection.

Design-

DWR-113 is a WiFi 150N pocket router. It has a sleek body with LEDs on the front panel. It measures 140 x 128 x 23 mm in dimensions which has its WAN antenna at the rear area. The antenna uses the latest 2 dpi(Direct Power Injection Setup) technology which increases its rates of signal capturing capabilities that helps it in transmitting signals through even floors and walls without much loss of power.

Other than that DWR-113 contains one RJ-45 WAN port, 4 Ethernet ports and one USB 2.0 port.

Connectivity-

DWR-113 uses 802.11n Wireless standard instead of the standard 802.11g through its 3G Modem backup which increases the internet connection speed to nearly four times.

It also has an automatic WAN failure switching system which switches to your 3G net connection in case WAN link is lost. This automatic switch over is streamlined to avoid any jitters in an active connection.

Security-

To protect your privacy, DWR-113 uses WPA, WPA2 wireless encryption wireless network. It offers secure and private network access via PPTP, L2TP and VPN pass through as well WPS connectivity which securely connects you to new devices. It also has an integrated firewall to protect you from unauthorized third party access.

If you plan to use it in office then it offers you a multiple system access through a single internet connection while hiding your private office network behind a global network address according to the new Network Address Translation system.

Supported Dongles-

It supports all of the major 3G internet dongles but I suggest that you refer the official document to confirm first if your dongle is supported or not.

Price-

Ranges from Rs1745 on flipkart upto 2400 in some retail shops.

Final verdict- It is definitely worth every rupee it is priced for and I suggest for anyone looking for a 3G Wifi router. Definetely better than a normal router which costs almost the same. Thats it guys . take care
