COPTHORNE ORCHID HOTEL, SINGAPORE
Dear Copthorne Orchid Hotel,
You were OUR (with my best half) home for more than 2 months and you did not disappoint us.
You are situated at 214, Dunearn Road and your website is https://copthorne.com - you are situated just 2 kms from the Singapore Botanical Gardens.
Yours is a beautiful country in all aspects; the people, the infrastructure, the cultural
tolerance, concern for nature and above all your country gave me a few, very good Singaporean friends.
I remember the day when we directly reached your Hotel from airport and your courteous staff welcomed us and after quick formalities we were in our rooms.
Your lobby is very spacious and beautiful just like most of the big hotels around the world but what I liked the most were the Orchids planted here and there. Further away from your lobby are couple of beautiful ponds one in each direction full of the Koi fish(dark orange and black in colour-live long till 60 years!!) & small plants.
You have couple of shops equipped with consumer goods(higher priced than normal, naturally), a travel company and a few pay phones all in your premises apart from the medium-sized swimming pool in the open.
All credit cards are accepted & there is a foreign exchange counter but you rather visit Little India for a better deal for large amounts.
Transportation
You are not far from Orchard Street - the tourist hub of Singapore. And the best part of the stay was the SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE provided by your hotel. This shuttle runs every hour between Hotel and Orchard street from 9am to 10.30pm and return. This makes the stay a very convenient experience as once we are connected to Orchard street one can go anywhere in Singapore.
The Bus Stop is just outside the Hotel and the buses are wow - airconditioned and with TV (btw I watched the semi-final of world cup soccer on a double-decker). Taxis can be booked at the hotel itself at no charge. Do travel by bus - its an experience.
Rooms:
You have close to 440 rooms in various categories to cater to the needs of your tourist crowd and business travellers from across the world. Your rooms are adequately priced - I being a corporate client received a massive discount for the long stay. Also your prices included buffet breakfast for couple in my case.
The rooms are neat, clean, dry and spacious; bathroom has a huge tub, shower and plenty of towels, soaps & shampoos. Your service items includeHair dryers and Iron apart from electric kettle (must for a travaholic like me). There is a small refrigerator with minibar loaded with all u need items and a small safe tucked away in the wooden cupboard.
Your rooms have a balcony; beds are very comfortable but free TV channels are limited though you have on-demand movies. Room service is good but food was never to my satisfaction as the menu is limited. Laundary service is available and expensive but we always used the washing machine facility appx. SGD 13 per load I think.
Newspaper is delivered every morning and yes your rooms have internet access too. Most of your staff speaks english quite well.
Restaurants:
There are 3 restaurants serving different menus. Breakfast buffet was decent but having the same menu for 2 months - pity us guys. The menu is more suited for East Asians and not Indians definitely. Do you want to have pork, chicken or fish in the morning ...fruits, milk, eggs & cereals are what we had.
They have a Karaoke bar and an Asian restaurant but again the food is definitely not for regular Indians (I believe in eating what the locals eat but Octopus or Shark fin or pork/beef are not my idea of local food).
Overall we were pretty satisfied with our stay at your Hotel though the food could have been more suited to our Indian stomachs considering the Indian traffic you get.
Thanks for making our stay a warm and comfortable experience.
Yours Sincerely,
Deepanjali & Kamaljit
PS :-
#Indian food should be had at many of the local food courts (for ex. SCOTTs at Orchard Street). Restaurants are very expensive. Also at food courts you can try various foods from different countries - Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Mexican etc.
#DO TRY THE ICE KECHANG - SHAVED ICE WITH VARIOUS SYRUPS, JELLY BEANS, LEMON, FRUITS etc
#When staying in a hotel stock yourselves with snacks especially fruits, yogurts & chocolates.
