”Making someone laugh is the toughest of all jobs."
This line was said by a wise man. But I guess that wise man didn’t meet our Kapil Sharma, the stand-up comedian from Amritsar. He is definitely the biggest face on Indian Television when it comes to comedy. Kapil never thought about himself as a ‘Funny Man’, because he always aspired to be a singer, but destiny, you see it always plays its own tricks. He once said in an interview " Mai toh yuhi pehle doston ko hasaata tha, mujhe kya malum tha ke iske bhi paise milte hai."( These words may not be exactly the same as told by him.) He started with The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3; where Kapil reached up to the finals to become the winner of that season. It was his first opportunity to show case himself as a great comedian.
Kapil has not stopped since then. He has moved ahead of his contemporaries and managed to create a huge space for himself as not only as a stand up comedian but as an entertainer, even a singer and also a wonderful anchor with shows like Jhalak Dikhlaja Season 6 and more, in our hearts.
Kapil is now doing a show on Colours TV, Comedy nights with Kapil. I am watching this show right from the start because I have been a heart-core fan of Kapli and his comic timing. The thing that stands out in his performances is his ability to make a simple line sound funny. And his sense of spontaneity is a killer.
The concept of the show is simple. In the first half there are a few gags on the family. Always trying to solve their family issues or trying to earn some money. Later Kapil invites a few celebrities to promote their upcoming movies or shows. This chat show concept forms the second half of the show. The interaction of Kapil and the other characters present in the show, with these stars is a treat to the ears and pain to the stomach laughing.
The most amazing part about the show is that its not a one man show, although the name suggests Comedy Nights with Kapil, but you would enjoy the other characters also. The other characters are Kapil's dadi played by Ali Asgar, Kapil's buaa played by Upasana Singh, his wife played by Sumona Chakravarti and there are many more. Ali Asgar and Upasana Singh are veterans where comedy is concerned; and they always prove that why are they so successful and sought out actors for comedy. Sumona Chakravarti is the surprise package of the lot. Whenever she comes up on the stage she brings alon something unique. Sunil Grover who played Gutthi, who was Kapil's neighbor is not a part of the show now. I would still say Gutti acted like a cherry on this beautiful cake. I miss her. Navjyot Singh Sidhu, even though he is a gem of a person, but is very irritating at times and unbearable as well, the only drawback I can see in the entire show.
Some parts of the show( though repetitive) that I like:
Daadi's one and only one dance step that she keeps on doing time and again. And obviously her most famous dialogue beginner "ittu sa tha tu, ittu sa". The way she kisses the male celebs is also very funny.
Buaa's frustration that she is not getting married. Even her dialogue "kaun hai yeh aadmi" manages to gather some laughter.
Kapil's comments over his wife's lips are always unique in a wired manner. It always gets us laughing.
Audience's Interaction is also a part of the show. Where in audiences ask some questions too the celebrities.
My favourite parts( with the celebs) from a few episodes-
1) Most of the episode with SRK, Deepika and Rohit Shetty.
2) Priyanka and the "original" Pinky's dance on the song Pinky from the movie Zanjeer.
3) Ranbir's entire episode.
4) A fan dancing with Ranveer Singh on a song from Ramleela. My god he was a true fan he knew all the steps properly.
5).and many more
Finally I would say its subtle and effective humor and brilliant artists make this show a must watch. It a show which we can see with our entire family. People who don't watch it definitely miss out on the hilarious rollercoaster with Kapil. Thanks for reading and happy viewing!
