Well, the Army Troops simply refer to the portable DVD players (regardless of the make - some Coby, most others) as "Coby"s !! Coby DVD players cost just INR 3000.00 and are really durable and hardy. With A/V input (for use with DTH receivers) : if only THEY would be able to run off 12v DC input.
As of now only BIG TV does- the Coby turns out as the most 'logical option' for every jawan or officer deployed on a forward post. The player plays almost every format (DVD, MP3, DivX) and therefore is really suitable for running DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. With a rechargeable battery which is pretty bad but still manages to give about 2 hrs on A/V input; the Coby is really a good option if you get a BIG TV running off a solar cell.
Coby runs well connected to a Solar Panel (12v TATA BP Solar) even in bad weather. So, if you're on the move and want a player for your car (the swivel screen inverts for in-car use); or if you're in the Army or some other organisation where you're out of reach. Coby is a good option.
