This is one movie which really made me sit back and think what the hell am I doing with my life, what the hell I will end up doing and where the hell will I land up when all is over?
The movie's plot is very simple and that simple plot is used to deliever a knock out message too today's busy world.
Adam Sandler plays a highly motivated and career oriented architect who is working hisĀ back off for his firm and wants to make a partner. He is so busy he has no time for his kids, his wife and his parents. Even when he is with them he is busy taking office calls. When he is confronted by his wife about being so busy is job and work he gives the same answer which has been heard n number of times - I am not doing it for myself, I am doing it for my family, for you and my kids; so that they can have a better future?
This answer is nothing but self deception and every man who has ever given this answer knows this. Some have the courage to face the reality behind this answer - those who face it at least know what they are doing. Those who keep running from the truth end up in a big mess. The reality is no one is doing it for his family or kids or whatever - in today's world if you are so busy in work that you are not able to recall you kid's birthday or thing that spending time with your family is waste of time and you'd be better off working or finishing some project - you are an workaholic and you are doing it for yourself. You want a better life, a big name, power, money and all those things that go with it and you try to justify it by saying I am doing it for my family and hell, I just doing have enough time for all those stupid things.
If you are really doing it for your family means you love your family - if you love your family how come your mind even entertains the thought that spending time with them is a burden.
Nevertheless, one day Adam Sandler gets really pissed because his boss didn't give him promotion so he leaves the house in the middle of the night after having a fight with his wife and goes to a shopping mall where he finds a universal remote control by which he can control every thing that he wants. He starts fast fowarding his life and he ends up losing all the good things in his life. He becomes a big shot all right, he's got his own architecture firm and he got architect of the year award too but he's now divorced with his wife, his father is dead and he didn't even knew.
He misses all those small things which make life beautiful. The moments you spend with your loved ones, the meals you had together with family, getting drunk with friends, going out on vacations and picnics, moments you spent with you partner, when your kids were born, looking at your kids grow up and playing in the back yard with them..... Things like these matterĀ a lot. We tend to forget them, we overlook them.
The final 15 minutes of the movie are simply amazing - they move your heart, they make you scream out loud, they make you cry and then they make you laugh and in the process they give you a message much needed in today's insane world which is becoming even more insane.
This is an incredible movie. It must be seen. This will make you laugh. This will make you cry. This will make you laugh your guts out and cry you heart out. This will make you think. And think after you are through with this film - what matters most? Family or Work? The decision is yours to make.
Enjoy,
