I had always wanted to watch a movie in IMAX 3D or RealD 3D, as seen from the movie trailers. Only IMAX 3D screens are available in India. However in Pune only, Cinepolis - Westend Mall has an IMAX screen which is Screen 4 actually. My dream got fulfilled when I watched Kong: Skull Island 3D recently. IMAX ticket prices are always expensive in other cities starting from Rs. 400 upto 700 but in this multiplex the highest price is Rs. 450-500. Quite fortunately, there was a discount of Rs. 150 on 2 tickets at BookMyShow website. In this review I will only focus on the experience of the IMAX screen of this multiplex.
You need not carry a printout of the ticket. They accept m-ticket on the smartphone which reduces the waiting time in the queue.
Regarding the ticket prices, the front row seats are available for Rs. 200-220, then the Premium class for 230-250, the Executive class for 270-300 and VIP seats for approx 350. However, on weekends the prices rise by Rs. 30-50 each.
The ambience is too good in this multiplex. You will be greeted with a large IMAX THEATER logo just on the entrance. In the lobby area, there are few movie advertisements with cutouts where you can click selfies. Since, this was my first experience I was quite excited. The show was scheduled to start at 3:55 PM but started a bit late at 4:10. I was handed a pair of 3D glasses which had the IMAX logo. They were quite light and large in size which you can wear over your spectacles. After entering the hall, the whole theater had a bluish tinge which matches with the IMAX logo. The screen was curved, 2 large speakers at the side which were of IMAX brand too and obviously the projector could project IMAX quality frames. The seats were okay but not great, not reclining one. It was same as the other screens of this multiplex.
The first video on the screen and it was an IMAX ad which just blew my mind! Superb sound, great image quality and an amazing atmosphere. The subtitles were provided for this movie and it quite well fitted the screen. Trust me, I personally felt this was my best 3D experience. Each and every frame was like life-like images and the sound was thumping. The images were sharp, crisp and good on the eyes too. No eye irritation or dizziness. It was way better than any normal 3D quality - both picture quality and sound. Yes, the ticket prices might be high but it was totally worth it. You will remember it for a very long time. You can't get the copy on internet or watch it on your PC. Only Blu-ray copies are available but not the IMAX ones. They are only to be watched in a theater.
Overall, it was an awesome experience.just can't explain it in words. It has become an addiction for me:-P Will look forward to watching Wonder Woman again. So, go ahead and live the experience!
