Without any doubt, Cigna is the most ruthless, greedy, and unethical insurance company which I've ever had the unpleasant misfortune of dealing with in my entire life.(And there are many other insurance companies who I've had coverage with, as a basis for that same comparison.) But anyways, about 9 months ago in February of this year, my doctors diagnosed me with aggressive breast cancer which had already reached Stage IV by the time it was eventually discovered. My doctors back in February, had given me only a 60% chance of survival at the time, since the cancer had already metastasized and begun spreading into my lymph nodes, vital organs(pancreas, gall bladder, et cetera) and even into muscle and bone tissue.

Yet miraculously, I had somehow survived all of this even though my doctors weren't entirely sure at the time that I would respond to the chemotherapy treatments. Luckily though, my body slowly began to heal and recover, and I'm pleased to say that just days from now, I'll be able to celebrate ringing in 2020 and living through another year. Devastating as that entire cancer ordeal had been for me though, it actually paled in comparison to all of the ruthless, unethical, and in my opinion, downright inhumane tactics which Cigna had used in attempting to CONSTANTLY deny covering each and every single one of those lifesaving chemotherapy treatments which I had so desperately needed at the time. The doctors and medical directors(on Cigna's payroll of course) had essentially attempted to tell 7 different highly qualified oncologists and doctors on my own medical team that: "chemotherapy treatment is not being approved for your patient at this time, since other alternative and less invasive types of treatments have not been tried first." Quote for quote and word for word, those were the exact reasons behind Cigna attempting to basically tell someone diagnosed with devastating breast cancer that their life simply didn't matter. Instead, Cigna basically had the unbelievable temerity to suggest that "increased monitoring through the use of biannual CAT-SCANS would be sufficient enough intervention for my particular cancer, as opposed to the more expensive series of chemo sessions which I of course would truly need IN ORDER TO STAY ALIVE and continue fighting this disease.

Cigna obviously didn't want to spend the extra money covering "medically necessary" chemotherapy sessions, if they could basically try to escape financial responsibility of covering those by covering only a couple of CAT-SCANS per year, which would obviously be a fraction of what routine series of chemo sessions would cost. Fortunately for me however, a qualifying life event which had occurred in our family at around that same time(February) which Cigna was making all of these insurance denial decisions had enabled me to switch over to a different health insurer, who actually DID end up instantly covering all of my truly medically necessary chemotherapy treatments which my entire oncology medical team had so fervently fought for. Because of that seemingly divine intervention which had just so happened to coincide with my devastating breast cancer diagnosis, I was luckily able to avoid going into medical debt which could very well have amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

My new health insurance company which I was able to switch to towards the end of February, did end up covering the cost of(11) separate chemotherapy sessions which I've had so far to date. And in so doing, my new health insurer had essentially saved my life, so I'm obviously extremely grateful to them for that. However, based upon my own personal, horrific and truly nightmarish experiences dealing with Cigna and their callous and greedy denials of coverage for truly lifesaving medical care, I honestly feel that this is quite possibly the worst health insurance company which a prospective member(and/or their family) could probably ever choose for their own healthcare needs. Obviously, I cannot ever make that decision for whomever is reading my review right now, in terms of what health insurer they ultimately choose for themselves or their family. However, the one slightly positive "good" that has come out of all of these ordeals dealing with Cigna, is that I now feel empowered enough to forewarn others currently in the market for either individual or group health insurance coverage for themselves and/or their families to please make an informed decision regarding your own health. Buying health insurance is one of the most important individual decisions which we will ever make in our lives, either for ourselves individually or for our families jointly.

Let my story here of heartache and devastation serve as a cautionary tale if it must, in helping others to hopefully make the right decisions in their own lives by choosing the right health insurer for their needs. Quite honestly in my own humble opinion, Cigna would definitely NOT be included in that same category. And if my very impassioned review here saves JUST ONE woman(or man) or their families from having to endure the same heartache and devastation which I had endured in dealing with Cigna's constant and baseless denials of coverage for truly lifesaving medical care, then all of my efforts in writing this review obviously will not have been in vain.

Thank you for reading my review, and always remember to cherish life in the moment for it is truly a blessed thing.
