It's heartening to know that today people are looking up to management as a career option. We not only have students from the Commerce background, who are vying for Management seats in esteemed institutions, but also Science Graduates who are sweating it out at the CAT, only to secure an MBA degree. Who would have thought that all this would have been possible, even a couple of years ago?
The truth is that today, people have changed their opinions about business related fields as possible career options. No more do you find parents pressurising their kids to take up Science and end up in an Engineering / Medicine related field. In fact, more and more Science students are now realizing that, in order to survive in today's cut-throat industry, they need to learn a few management mantras.
My personal experience may be the best example. When I got good marks in my 10th standard examinations (ICSE), I was advised to take up Science for my further studies. But I took a different route...the one to Commerce. Today, I am happy doing my Bachelors in Business Administration, because this is what will take me to my destination: CEO of my own company in the near future!
For those of you, who are deciding on a career, let it be management or finance or marketing or HR or any other Science related field, always keep in mind - what you want to do in life ultimately. It's very simple: if you do something that you like, then you will enjoy working your Job / Business. On the other hand, if you choose a career option going by current market trends or due to parental pressure, or because your friends have chosen it, and not because you like it, then you are going to feel the pressure of the work you will do and will never be satisfied with what you do.
So, my advice to you is that if you have a penchant for organizational skills, if you are fast and accurate at making decisions, and if you have what it takes to be a leader who can steer a company through rough waters, then go ahead...take the plunge...Management is your forte!! All the Best :o)
