BACKGROUND -

Well for the background of this Review you may need to go to my earlier review on Videocon S 091 DX Refrigerator. In short, I returned that refrigerator to my friend when they moved back to Gurgaon from Hyderabad.

PLANNING -

So, I was again back to square one with no Refrigerator at my apartment. At the on-set of summer, I felt the need for a Refrigerator, after all a glass of cold water is kinda necessity, once you are back from work. It was tough to decide what to do since I am living as a bachelor in a rented apartment at Hyderabad, on top of that I have not yet decided where to settle down.

I did not have 15, 000-20, 000 odd rupees to spare for Refrigerator and did not want to buy a make-shift option, a Refrigerator which I could not use further once I was settled. Its then that a long faded option re-surfaced, I always wanted to buy a small refrigerator for bed-room. I converted this confusion into an opportunity to bring that old wish to life:)

EXECUTION -

I zoomed out on the next weekend but luck was not at my side:( , I searched almost every electronic store but could not find 80 Lts Refrigerator, as I thought this is the smallest one can get. Those were out of stock both from Videocon and Godrej. Disappointed I came back and again went back on next weekend, still it was the same story - no stock available:(

As I was about to come out from the last store for that day i.e. TMC, I noticed there was something hidden from the view behind row of Big Refrigerators. I went there and there it was shying away from its Big Brothers - Cute n Small Videocon 55 X DC Refrigerator.

It looked so small to me, just like a toy, real funny. I opened the door and everything inside was so cute. Next moment I was at the Cash Counter, had to shelve out 5, 700 Rs for this! Yes I agree, it is damn expensive for 50 Lts Refrigerator but then I would say this price is not for its capacity, its more for looks:)

*SPECIFICATION -

Capacity 50 Litres

Concealed Condenser - Smooth Back

Semi Automatic Defrosting

Handle within the door - on Top

Stainless Steel Door

Weight 24 Kg

CAPACITY -

Well with a capacity of 50 Litres, it would be unjust to expect too much from this Chhotu Guy. However for a single person it still proves itself sufficient enough.

*Shelf -

Starting from the main body, it has two shelves, upper shelf is full size but the one that is below is half in depth. I guess its because condenser is at the bottom. Upper Shelf is high enough to put large bowls, is spacious enough for one person. Bottom Shelf is not that spacious as it is half in depth, but this one too is high enough.

Freezer -

It also has a half breadth freezer, in depth it is as normal freezers are but in width its half. It came with an ice-tray. Also interestingly it does not have a separate door. Its just open.

Door Space -

It has got one full length shelf and one half shelf.

HOW I USE IT -

I have been using this refrigerator for more than 2 months now. Did some innovative thinking on how to maximize the efficient usage of space available.

*Shelf -

*I use upper full size shelf  to store cooked food, dairy products(curd and milk). For the bottom shelf which is half in depth, I used some innovative thinking and put a rectangular plastic basket in it, it fits in nicely and gave a solution to store vegetables. I am able to store my weekly quota of vegetables in it which includes - green vegetables, lemon, coriander leaves, cucumber etc.

Freezer -

In its half breadth freezer, I have put in a nine-cubes an ice-tray, along with that I put one pack of frozen paranthas which I use twice in a week. Apart from that there is just enough space remaining to put a pack of frozen safal matar(green peas) as well.

Door Space -

In the bottom full length shelf, I put two one litre bottles of water, one 500 ml soft drink, and a one litre natural juice bottle. I use upper half-length shelf to store butter and cheese slices.

TOO MUCH OF GOOD IS NOT GOOD:)

So, lets see some of the not-so-positive points about this refrigerator is -

  1. Strictly not for more than one individual

  2. Does not have internal light, so its kinda inconvenient in dark

  3. Too expensive for its size. Better term would be Over-Priced.

BOTTOMLINE -

Well, following lines are word-to-word from my earlier review on S 091 DX:) . I am quite happy with its performance, looks, efficiency and space. Its again an amazing product from Videocon.

I am using it the way I have mentioned above. But for the future plan, I wish to keep it in one corner of my bed-room with lots of Fruits, Water, Soft-Drinks, Juice, Ice-cream and plenty of Chocolates:)

You can go for it, if you are single, willing to shelve out little more; but if you are not single then better decide considering the suggestion of your better half because -

  1. She knows the best when it comes to home:)

  2. She may give you a hard-time for buying this over-priced cute stuff. Further, if you are thinking to defend yourself by directing her to my review:), rest assured that would be a desperate effort to save yourself:)
