Unlimited Plan

Hi,

If any one of you is looking for a broadband DSL connection with unlimited download plan, then this review is for you.

I was looking for an unlimited download plan with minimum speed of 64 kbps. I download lots of things like movies, games, music, software. I checked all ISPs MTNL, AirTel, Sify, Hathway, Tata Indicom and even local cable internet provider. All ISPs' plans had a catch.

I finally settled with AirTel and I also recommend it to everybody, if you have similar requirement like me.

Why AirTel only?

--------------------

OK, lets start with MTNL. Yes they have a unlimited download plan with 64 kbps speed, but catch is only 500 MB a month. Can you imagine only 500 MB download in 30 days and they call it unlimited plan. God knows what do they mean by ''unlimited''. So this one was not for me.

Next Sify. Again they too have an unlimited plan but download limit of 150 MB a day. Same problem, unlimited with a download limit. Also the connection would be shared ie 2 users would be using the same 64 bandwidth pipe. So you wont be getting whole 64 kbps, but around 32-40 kbps. So if you are going for Sify, check if your connection is shared. Charge: 700 bucks a month. For other details, the connection would be a LAN connection and no modem required. But customer care is not good of Sify.

Tata Indicom, Hathway, etc : No unlimited plan. Limited network. I didnt waste time on these ISPs.

AirTel. Two plans Home 64 and Home 128 and no download limit, ie TRUE UNLIMITED plan. Charges same as Sify, 600 for Home 64 and 900 for Home128. Now Home 64 is upgraded to Home 128 and Home 128 to Home 256 at same charges.

No breaking of connection, constant download speed (I keep my PC 24 hrs running, downlaoding something), no limit (I download 5-6 GB of data in a month) and fast/responsive customer care. What else do I need. Earlier they had a catch, you need to take a telephone line for a net connection, but now that's gone too. And yes, the connection is not shared, I get full bandwidth: complete 128 kbps.

On other charges, 100 bucks are charged for Modem rental (if you do not have a DSL modem. Dial-up modem is different). That makes 700/1000 per month. thats it. No hidden charges.
