Children of Heaven.

Majid Majidi, is possibly a child himself. He finds children as adults, because every child can distinguish the right from wrong. And this innocence has led this film it's victory. We are children ourselves, we let ourselves go when we are on our own. This movie, is about Ali and Zara, it is about you and your brother or your sister. It is about the love you have, and the care with which families have remained together for years. The intelligence of civilization was having to start a family and the values it brought with it.

When I saw Color of Paradise, I was told to watch this movie by a friend while I was studying communication. I was marveled with color of paradise. But yesterday night, when I walked into the DVD rental store, I saw Children of heaven, and I screamed, 'Children of Heaven'. I turned the DVD around and was about to read the preface, but I stopped myself from reading the story. I just didn't want the brilliance of the script to be spolit by me reading it. I simply wanted to be surprised. And surprised I was.I want you too, to be surprised, so I won't reveal any story here. But just the marvelous feelings you never thought someone so sensitive could bring out the same in others.

In Ali, the young boy I saw my brother and in Zara I saw me, I couldn't help but watch them playfully do their thing, striving for keeping each others respect and pride. I saw the love of a brother for his sister, so abundant, that I wouldn't believe that Iran would be a country haunted by war. I saw the sacrifice they can permit their soul, that they would give up their favorite anything, just to see their loved one smile the pearly smile. I saw the tearful eyes of Ali, when he couldn't tell the teacher the actual truth as he made up a lie over a lie to save himself and his sister from embarassment. I saw a sister's vow kept with pride even if the brother didn't live up to the expectations. I saw that a father does love his children, even if he is torn down menacingly by poverty. I saw honesty stripped bare by poverty, but yet stays honest. I saw things I've never seen before. I saw the world open up. I looked at these children as brave. And I felt so small.

I found that friendship could never mean a fullstop. I knew that in poverty there is a sense of pride and love for the one who gets them the daily bread. I knew that all desires could not be fulfilled. I knew that love could come in all forms, even in the form of a goldfish.

This movie, isn't a movie. It is a call to the little children in ourselves to strengthen our innocence. To believe. To love beyond any bounds. It is such a sensitive portrayal of emotion, that I am so amazed at Majid Majidi and his team, that how on earth could he think that this could be made into a movie? I am so stunned by the fact that children could act naturally in front of the camera and act out their true emotion without any binding, without any hesitation, but make us believe they were brother and sister in the first place. As I write, Tears well up in my eyes, because for a movie like this, you need an audience just as sensitive you are, and thankfully with an audience that gave this movie a five star, years after its release, and made it a point to tell their friends that this movie was highly recommended. I am glad the world is sensitive and that it's only love that we need, and its only on love that we survive.

Watch it, with someone who you love, who can apprecaite the finer things in life, mostly with the one who you discuss life's tough questions.Because this film, dicusses it, just as lucidly, as you enjoy the aftertaste of a darjeeling tea leaf.
