By golly, once in a while a movie comes up and becomes a rage, a cult, a classic and lots more. So what is it that makes these movies indispensible. Well, the answer is I DONT KNOW. But indeed what I do know is that CHICAGO is in the same league.
This was the first good musical I had seen and was very sceptical about it as songs and hollywood generally do not find flavour with each other. And ona few occassions when the two have met the result has been not so noteworthy(Moulin Rounge). And I did not regret my decision to go to the theatre.
When things go right, they just seem to go perfect. I bet anyone finds a single error in the film. Renne Zellweger as Roxie Hart, Catherine Zeta Jones as Velma Kelly and the one, the only, the silver tongued prince of the court Mr. Billy Flinn(Richard Gere) are all perfect and excellent and the soul of the film.
But they alone would not made the difference the film made had it not been for the excellent music which comes in at apt times in the film and takes the story and the audience along with it. ''All That Jazz'', ''Mama Morten'', ''They Had It Commin'', all are so good that one can simply marvel at the songs and the https://lyrics.
Mr. Billy Flinn : Objection Your Honour?
Judge : Sustained.
Public Prosecuter : But Your Honour, I havent spoken a word?
''Ya but thats Chicago''
The characterizations are so very realistic and engaging that one can simply love Velma, crave for Roxie, hate and marvel at Billy and be sad for the poor Amus.
I kept screaming for an encore and have already watched the movie 3 times and am still going strong. But what I really need now is some company, to tatter along with me as I have watched the movie with everyone I knew and no one is prepared to go again. ''GOD FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY SIN''
