Unfortunately, I happened to see this movie. Yes, that's how I'd put it. :(
To be frank, I dont know what is Jazz music. Never I was aware that such a thing existed! Somebody(should be real nut) told me that this movie is a sort a of thriller. With this in mind(and before reading any reviews in any mags) I went to this movie.
The movie started with some Jazz song being sung by Catherine Zeta Jones. I thought, may be this is the only song in the movie. She kills her husband(I think!) while the music was going on and I thought that the plot was being set.
But oh my god, another lady(Renee) kills another person and both land in Jail. Another song in the jail, another song, another song and so on... Now, I just lost my temper and rushed outside the cinema hall and cooled down myself with some Pepsi and thank His-Almighty, Intermission was announced. Those calm and peaceful moments lasted only for a few minutes. I had to sit back in the theatre with my friends' recommendations that there will be something interesting in the movie by the end.
A dose of another couple of songs were played just enough to raise my temper beyond 105 degrees fahrenheit. But... er.. the depiction of court scene as a Jazz song was good. But then it was pretty late and I had to go back home with the refreshing feeling that the movie got over.
There are few good points too...
Renee did a very good job as Roxie Hart. Catherine, too, was very good. It was nice to see them bringing out so many expressions in face while dancing. I, also, liked the Jail Janitor's character Mama! That was good one.
I was shocked to see the next day morning newspaper that said ''Chicago bags 6 Oscars''.
There must be something in the movie if its getting 6 Academy awards. Now, I brought back my memories of watching the film and I was able to appreciate the difference in the movie. The way they could chart out a complete storyline with Jazz songs and very less intermittent dialogues.
But, its not a movie for me and the alike... I could have always done away without seeing this movie. I did not really revel the movie. May be I should've had a nice sleep instead on that night.
