Well, the fact is that no matter what I say about the film, you are going to see it.so why read this review? because it is better to have low expectations and be mildly amused rather than having high expectations and being disappointed.
Same thing happens with Chennai Express when you board the train expecting breathtaking locations, an interesting journey with humor and action stations aptly spaced between the destination, what you get is everything but nothing at it's prime which leaves you quite unsatisfied. This movie is neither SRK style romance nor Rohit Shetty style masala movie.
The cast has done a good job which is why this movie is not as bad as it could have been, withDeepika's accent sounding hilarious andSRK fitting into his role easily. But I wonder what the script writer would have thought while writing the humor scenes of the movie cause there ain't many! All the humor in the film is evoked by dialogues and not the scenes.Kudos to Farhad-Sajid for giving us such a toilet-free humor(Its hard to find it these days). The music by Vishal-Shekhar is foot-tapping and the lungi song in the end credits is just icing to the cake.
Although the script is not upto the mark, it would be wrong to say that Shetty has not tried his best to make a mediocre script look good. The action is good, whenever it appears.I just wish if only the film had more action, it could have been better.
Sometimes, there are movies which you can see with family without having awkward moments or scenes and Chennai Express is one such movie. But one of the main factors why a person may like a movie is because of the scenes he/she takes home after seeing the whole film and awaits to see it when the film comes on the T.V. but mind it! Chennai Express has no such scenes. It is better when travelled (seen) together, with family.
In the end, I would like to say that I won't stop you from seeing the movie (which you were anyways going to see if I told you not to) but don't expect to see many laugh-out-loud moments or heartwarming SRK romance..Keep your expectations a bit to the ground and you might as well be quite amused!
