The Plot:
This is one of His Perry Masons book. Like all of them it begins in a Court House Room.
His secretary Della Street and the Private Detective Paul Drake are there to help him.
The District Attorney is Hamilton Burger and will be on the opposite side trying to win the case.
Morley Eden visits Perry Mason about his problem. A beautiful woman has run a barbed wire fence through the middle of his house! Morley Eden paid a contractor to build a house on a lot, but half the lot belonged to his wife, and now she has claimed her share.
He has paid a contractor to build a house on land that half of the lot belonged to his wife. Now she want her share.
The Judge hopes to use this conflict against the contractor Loring Carson. Perry Mason visits Nadine Palmer to tell her about Morley Eden's suit against Loring Carson. Nadine was wrongly accused in Loring's divorce suit and that she might get a lot of publicity that she might not want.
When the press conference is held inside Morley Eden's part of the house they find the dead body of Loring Carson. The reporters cluster around the body like sharks in a feeding frenzy.
The newspapers report on this case is about drama, missing money, mystery, sex all in an unusual setting.
The Author:
Erle Stanley Gardner was a civil rights lawyer. When he decide to write books he wrote 146! Perry Mason is the central character in 85 of them.
His first book was published in 1933 and his last book in 1976.
The Mason books were made into a TV series.
What I Thought:
The fence is quite unusual and produces amusing and intricate consequences that is also a love story.
His clients often lie at first and they only tell Mason the truth after the trial!
I enjoyed reading this book so much I read it a number of times.
Thanks for reading this review.
