I was using a 3mp Olympus Digicam for last 2 years to learn more about the functions of a Digital camera. Once I got accustomed how to use it and learnt a bit of photography I decided to upgrade my camera. My uncle is an excellent photographer and I have only seen the likes of Canon/ Nikon with him and he had advised me to go for either of this if you need to take an excellent quality pictures. So I decided to go for a Canon. After surfing the internet and reviewing the different types of Canon cameras and their specifications I decided to settle for the A630 for its high mega pixel and price. The flip-open and rotating screen like that of a video camera is a smart and advantageous addition in this camera for shooting self portraits and also while shooting at difficult angles especially in a crowded place where you can raise the camera and tilt the screen to view and shoot the images very comfortably. This has a 8 megapixel with 4 x Optical zoom. The zoom also can be increased further digitally.
I asked a collegue of me to get this camera from New York as the price was less expensive as compared to that in India. I bought this camera for Rs.7000/- only as against the price of Rs.17000/- that was tagged in the Canon Website then.
I didn’t know anything about how to take photos in Manual mode. I turned the mode to manual and selected different options and settings and kept on clicking photos and seeing how the photos came out. Actually you don’t have to worry that the film roll would end as I had put a 2 GB card and in a normal mode of 640 x 480 resolution you could take a maximum of 8000 photos. Slowly I learnt the different options available and the best suited settings for any photo. I was amazed at the quality of photos that this camera was giving out. A friend of mine who is a professional photographer also commended on some of the photos that I had taken.
The best thing is even my 4 year old son takes photos in this and gets good pictures. The view finder is also useful when your battery is down.
The video quality is also superb in this camera. It is as good as shooting on a video camera. You can download this on to a computer and burn it on a CD or even carry it on your memory stick. This is the easiest way you can utilize this camera to the maximum.
The only negative point is that this doesn’t come with rechargeable batteries. You have to use only the lithium batteries like Duracell etc., to get good life. So now I have bought a Duracell battery charger with 4 rechargeable batteries to use with this camera.
If you are buying rechargeable batteries, always ensure that you have also a pack of lithium batteries in your bag so that even if your battery runs out of charge you can use the spare ones.
To put it in a nutshell, this is an excellent camera with a lot of different features that you can use to take some great pictures.
