Cafe Coffee Day on Sarat Bose Road or more popularly called CCD Lake Road by its connoisseurs, has been the pioneers of CCD craze in South Kolkata.
Located in the posh vicinity of Rabindra Sarobar Lake, CCD Lake Road is always abuzz with exuberance. The crowd is lively, the decor is colorful and the food is lip smacking. It has been a favorite joint for hour long chats with friends.
Normally the area is crowded, and you can choose between sitting indoors and outdoors. Recently the shop has been renovated and the outdoor area has shifted from the front balcony to a side corridor inside the air conditioned interiors.
The CCD crowd mostly comprise of youngsters and also people in the aged group, yes I am talking of the 50-60 plus crowd here. It's really great to see how these age groups blend together and enjoy great time under one roof.
On a lucky day, you may spot celebrities coming here and enjoying too. I have seen the likes of Saheb, Mumtaz, Kaninika, Debjani, Ashoke and Neel flock around here. You can also sometimes spot a loner, sipping coffee and playing with his/her phone/laptop.
CCD Lake Road was probably the first outlet who had installed a Jukebox machine. It was a vending machine where you can insert a 5 rupee coin, choose from the playlist and play a song of your choice on the loudspeaker. It's really a great experience.
The food and drink is what every big outlet of CCD offers. I personally enjoy Irish Coffee, Capuccino, Cafe Frappe, Iced Eskimo, Chocolate Cake Sizzler, Brownie, Chicken Tikka Sandwich and Chicken 65 Sandwich. It's a place which introduced me to the great aroma and variety of coffee beans. Prior to this, I have only known Nescafe at home and Filter Coffee from South Indian eateries.
The staff including the servers and floor manager are very attentive, friendly and helpful. You will have a good experience here with your friends.
