Get your preferences right.

With the rising rate of digitisation, printer has become a necessity. And for general home use, a All in One should get preference. Getting out various receipts, tickets, copying documents, scanning and uploading certificates, all require you, to have a printer handy.

And the market is already flooded with choices of Inkjet and Laser printers. Don't get dizzy with that load.

While Laser uses heating with laser and coloured powders, Inkjet prints directly by spraying ink from cartridges. For those who have bulk printing needs, Laser does it faster with a better quality and at a lower cost than the Inkjet printers. However laser needs more power, costlier as well as bulky. People with seldom use should stick with Inkjets.

While the toners for Laser printers are refilled, refilling Inkjet cartridges aren't always successful, and the cartridges come costly, however cheap you have bought the printer. Do check the printing capacity of the cartridge supported by the printer you have selected. Apart from it, tank printers too have been introduced which uses an ink tank system, instead of cartridges.

I haven't used a printer with tank yet, so won't comment anything on it. The one I am using currently is HP 2520hc, which gives 200+ black and white printed pages at least. The no. 46 cartridge has a bigger size at almost the same price as others. Also some printers need both cartridge installed even if you just need black and white printing, this one works in the single cartridge mode.

Get one with inbuilt WiFi connectivity support for wireless printing. They can get your prints directly from mobiles and tablets as well.

Printers supporting printing from memory cards are an added advantage but in the long run, this feature probably will remain mostly unused. Avoid paying extra for it.

Am I missing anything else?
