Processors

Nowadays u must need atleast 2.0Ghz processor because new games(doom 3, half life 2, etc.) and softwares(photoshop 8, Maya 5, etc) must have high speed processors to run smoothly.

Hard disk

MP3's and movies fill up the hard disk very quickly.You ought to have atleast 40 GB.But the hard disk are becoming very cheaper today and I recommend 80 GB which is just Rs 600 higher than 40 GB.

RAM

Everything from your application to ur operating system begs for more RAM.Games of today eats RAM and I recommend 512 MB @ 400 Mhz.Because games like maxpayne need atleast 512 MB RAM to run smoothly.The more the ram the smoother the system because its dependance on hard disk will reduce dramatically.

Motherboard

Go for Intel 865 - based chipsets and do not buy 845 based platform because it is outdated.Also Intel 865 and 875 based chipsets supports 800 MHZ FSB processors.Sound cards are inbuilt on the motherboard and ask ur dealer for motherboard with 6 channel audio.6 channel audio will be useful when u have home theatres and surrounds.

Moniter.

I recommend 17- inch monitor as this would create only less stains to eyes than 15- inch monitors in case of playing games and viewing graphics.

Mouse

Optical mouse are more accurate than ball-mouses.Ball mouses will carry dust in it and u would have to clean every week.But in case of optical u would not need cleaning.

keyboard

I want u to buy a multimedia keyboard.Because it would reduce ur work while adjusting volume and using browsers

CD-writer/CD-ROM

Before two or three years, CD-ROM costs Rs 1500 .But Nowadays CD-Writers are available for Rs.1700 and CD-ROM for Rs 750.So buy either of two, based on ur need.

Modem/UPS

56.6 kpbs Internel modem recommended.600VA ups recommended.
