I am not going to talk about Bulla Ki Jaana! Everybody talked about Bulla Ki Jaana. Even today, they talk only about Bulla Ki Jaana. The reason this is extremely unfair is that there is so much more to this album than just Bulla Ki Jaana.
Let’s not even talk about the songs to start with. It’s the sound we should start out by focusing on. In a cluttered market where undifferentiated music is churned out using digital production technology, here is an artiste who has painstakingly created rich, earthy songs with deep philosophical yearnings and completely unostentatious musical ornamentation. All these make the album a collector’s delight.
I remember in live concerts, Rabbi used to perform Bulla Ki Jaana as the last song, because he knew people had come only to listen to that song. That is not a happy situation because songs like Tere Bin and Jugni are just as fascinating. Hence my recommendation to you is don’t miss the big picture. I know so many of my friends who have just downloaded Bulla Ki Jaana – as though that is the only song Rabbi has ever produced. It’s frustrating! There’s more folks – much more!
