Done the Bombay - NY/Chicago sector thrice, all of them by BA. It has the shortest layover time in Heathrow. Only 1.5 hours or less.
Believe me or not, I’ve found British Airways pricing competitive to other airlines with BA giving me a 2 sector internal flight in the US, free. Had a choice of Lufthansa but the layover time was too much besides I would have to pay for the internal flights by buying VUSA tickets.
It does help when you have friends in the airlines. Had my classmate check in my bags and all the stewardess knew of my cousin ,formerly working with BA, so the service was great all round. Never did have complaints on any other airline for that matter. (Big gripe - no cute airhostess on BA - Those days when airlines have good looking stewardess have gone - EXCEPT FOR JET AIRWAYS - half of Andrews College- thank god for private airlines )
The deal with these racist comments on BA would apply to any airline. Majority of us Indians by nature are horrible airline travellers. If you don’t believe me, visit the loo when you are flying into India from anywhere in the world. Besides their horrible civic sense each one thinks that they own the airline and so command the stewardess like their servants. It ain’t racist, its just being tit for tat. Be polite and you’ll get the respect you deserve.
Hate the food on BA on the Bombay London sector. One of the worst airline food ever. The change in food in the London – US sector is oceans apart. The transatlantic flights have good food.
Another gripe is that the planes are always running packed to capacity ( atleast whenever I’ve travelled). So no point in asking an upgrade to First Class cause the flight is always full (even having friends doesn’t help in this matter). So my frequent flyer miles in BA would have to be used on buying domestic flights. Secondly the “One World” frequent flyer airlines other than Emirates are not in the same league as the
Star Alliance airlines. Besides they have more airlines in their FF scheme. All in all no point flying BA for their miles.
Love the in flight entertainment and various choice of programs. Good past time even if one has to watch “Finding Nemo” on both the sectors ( sometimes twice on the same flight)
Finally ending with the note that to ask your agent for the best price in BA. I get 40% off of my ticket price which makes my travel really competitive with other airlines. Around Rs.7000 cheaper than Delta. Although with the discounted ticket one doesn’t get the full frequent flyer mileage but what the heck with the money I save I can go twice to London or the states. Can’t have it all can you. Have a great flight.
