It is said that "Sharaab jitni purani ho utni hi achchi hoti hai" (Old wine too much is good for hemoglobin!), but if it's not packaged well, nobody will buy it. If you package it well, you'll get customers, but once they drink it, if its taste is not good, then by word of mouth, you may not get anymore customers. This repackaged old wine ain't good, but still it will get customers because of Brand Name - Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn etc (Produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms and Shree Asthavinayak Cine Vision, marketed by Fox Star Studios). For me, it has its taste but only for some moments, otherwise it will taste like beer.
A guy named Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) loses his ancestral property to his bade abbu. On an advice of Shastri (Asrani), he alongwith his sister Sania (Asin Thottumkal) comes to a Rajasthani village named Ranakpur, which is headed by a powerful and wealthy Prithviraj Raghuwanshi (Ajay Devgn). He hate lies and his english is very bad. Because of Abbas's friend Ravi (Krushna Abhishek), who is also the son of Shastri, they have to tell a lie about Abbas to Prithvi, that he is actually not Abbas but Abhishek Bachchan. Then started the new packing of Old Golmaal movie, where double role comes up, Abbas become Abbas and got a job of teaching dance to Prithvi's sister Radhika (Prachi Desai), and the movie goes on.
Its an official remake of old 'Golmaal', so I will say that nothing has been done in story department, but yes they tried to do it new way, especially the Rohit Shetty's way, but that too also didn't come good. He is known for one-liners, that were there, but very less, he's known for good stunts, yes that was there, he's known for flying cars and car and other vehicle stunt clashes, that was also there but too less. Plus everytime you will be thinking of Golmaal, and comparing the movie with this one, since they also shown the scenes of original movie, which actually made the movie like avoidable. One positive thing happen is a formula actually worked here - "Apne tv show pe director ko judge banalo, kisi ka to bhala ho hi jayega" (Made a Judge out of Director, and all well that ends well!). Krushna Abhishek got a chance, and he actually shines more plus his role was an elongated one, although his expressions are quite matching with Comedy Circus. Plus Archana Puransingh was also taken to play a double-role maa!. Krushna was one of the best thing happen to movie, I am still waiting to see Bharati in movie too! Ajay Devgn was the 2nd best thing, I am a big fan of him and he can do any kind of role, here while speaking extra-ordinary (means which is ordinary to extra level) english, he just sizzled and giggled the viewers, also when he did a parody of 'Aata Majhi Satkel' from Singham. Heroines - Asin and Prachi were just for timepass. Comic moments are there, but whole as a package movie let you down. Dialogues too are less catchy unlike in Rohit's earlier movies. Songs look okay to good, tunes seem good - 'Bol Bachchan' as the starting song was good, where Amitabh Bachchan did a special appearance, the song sets the tone of movie. Then there are 'Chalao na Naino se baan' sung by Himesh Reshammiya was a good one, and one more song 'Nach le' music was good (by Ajay-Atul). Regarding the location, I will say that Ranakpur is a real village in Rajasthan, but the area shown is Jaipur. The dance sequences which took place in palace, plus the big lake shown is actually Amber (Read Aamer) Palace and its surroundings which is situated in Jaipur. I got a doubt right in the beginning when I saw the name of 'Le Meridian Hotel, Jaipur' name in starting credits, before that I didn't know that movie may be shot in Rajasthan. It's good to see my state in movie. Though some locations may belong to Ranakpur, I can't verify it as I haven't been there. Biggest letdown of movie was Abhishek Bachchan. Earlier I've read many -ve comments about him from various person doubting his acting skills, but I still like his work in 'Guru', or 'Sarkaar' to name a few, but this time I too thought that did he know acting? "Kahan Amol Palekar, Kahan Abhishek Bachchan (Read kahan Raja bhoj, kahan Gangu Teli)' (Where is Amol Palekar and Abhishek Bachchan is who?) It look like this time Rohit Shetty just fatafat in a hurry made this movie, that's why he didn't think about any other story, just picked Golmaal randomly and made the remake. It's impossible to copy or to get even near to the wonderful classic. He tried to make it somehow different but in actual he take out the magic out of the story.
So, I would suggest that you can miss the movie, its nothing great, you can watch it on TV. Just for few good scenes it's not advisable to waste your hard-earned money, okay if you want go in a low-cost cinemahall but avoid multiplex, because then you'll not only lose your ticket money, but also your popcorn and coke money too. My take 2.5/5 with a NO.
