Right from scene 1 the youthful avatar and the cocky spirited persona of Salman hooks you and keeps you entertained for the entire running duration. Salman as the mark of a true actor, again assumes the character of Luvly Singh completely and one roots for him and his brand of bravura and shyness that Salman has so effortlessly epitomized since his first film itself.
Bodyguard is a good balance of the right ingredients that will strike a chord in every viewer's heart. The hero and heroine both are introduced stylishly and the initial portions explain how Luvly was saved by Sartaj Rana(Raj Babbar in a refreshing cameo) at the time of birth while his father, Sartaj's bodyguard dies saving his master.
Luvly grows up to be a dapper, dashing, fearless bodyguard who also shakes a hip and a lip while safeguarding the chastity of superstar Katrina Kaif and shares some splendid moments with her in " Main Hoon Bodyguard".
He is commissioned by Sartaj to act as the bodyguard on duty for his daughter Kareena who he fears is in in danger for her life. The pre interval portions mainly deal with campus frolics(Symbiosis, Pune) and there is a comedy track dominated by Tsunami Singh and his love interest. This portion has a bit of substandard comedy(the only letdown in this otherwise praiseworthy movie). The humour is physical and a bit crude at times.
Its balanced out by the hide and seek game of love between the elusive lover Chaya and Luvly. Chaya calls him frequently and forms the basis of the suspense that threads the movie from the beginning to the end and leads to a twisty, interesting climax.
This portion tends to drag a bit as not enough drama is there but the storytelling technique with songs and the crackling chemistry between S&K keeps it going and one waits for some dhamaka to take the story forward.
The romance between Salman and Kareena is not ostensibly a romance since she loves him but never reveals her true identity, masquerading as the shadowy Chaya. But the stolen moments of tenderness are heart warming and are supported by some melodious songs like I love you.
What stands out in this narrative is undoubtedly the fabulous action choreography. Salman is in top form and best part is he loves the action that he does so each flourish, each twist of his limbs gives him delight and in return that delight is transferred to the audience who relish every bit of the goon bash up parade. Outlandish action, but totally eyeball grabbbing stuff.
The music is also sweet on the years. The sensuous song "Teri Meri Prem Kahani" has the lissome Kareena in sexy cholis and she looks incredibly sweetly desirable. Her entire wardrobe style will be emulated by the youngsters. Its hip and traditional fused in startling colors!
There is a gangster track too but thankfully they are limited to the extent of the romantic track itself running corollary to it and hence never out of place.
The twist to the story about 30 mins before climax is totally unexpected but quite appealing. The little boy who turns out to be Salman's and "??" 's son is a sweetheart and akin to Kuch Kuch Hota Hain is instrumental in bringing the two star crossed lovers finally together leading to a teary, sentimental ending.
The music has already become a big hit and its a value addition to the taut editing. The story is simple and endearing and the strong performances by Salman, Kareena, Raj Babbar and Kareena's fair friend is top notch keeps the narrative flowing and bringing in claps and hoots at the right moments. Action, as already said is the soul. No one overacts. They ae all sylish people but never over the top and this balance is what leaves you satiated as a viewer.
THE USP OF THE MOVIE: 20% EACH OF ACTION, ROMANCE, SENTIMENT, ACTION , STLE...MAKING IT 100% OF FULL ON ENTERTAINMENT. A SATISFYING TO THE SENSES ENTERTAINER:)
