Another Eid! Another Salman Khan release ! After a series of disasters , Salman Khan finally found a winning formula with Wanted two years back , which was to remake a successful South Indian flick and garnish it with Northern flavor for the universal acceptance .This trick worked wonderfully well in case of Ready and Wanted. But with Bodyguard you leave the theatre feeling high and dry mainly because the formula has become bit too familiar now. The problem with Bodyguard is that it does not know what it wants to be . Resultantly the film fails miserably in all the departments –romance , comedy and action .
To cut a long story short , this Bodyguard will be fired sooner than expected once the Eid weekend is over ..
The film narrates the story of Bodyguard named lovely Singh (Salman Khan)who is raised under the guidance of Raj Babbar .He is assigned the job of safeguarding Raj’s only daughter Divya (Kareena Kapoor). Lovely follows Divya to her college as her bodyguard. Divya and her friend (Hazel) get irritated with him following them all the time .They plan to get rid of him through a fake phone number which is when the real story begins ..
The problem with Bodyguard is manifold .The grip so essential in a film that promises loads of romance , action , drama and comedy is clearly missing .The film starts on a decent note and the tempo is maintained right till the title track .Katrina’s presence in the song is like an icing on the cake .But Alas the joy is short lived! 15 minutes more into the film and you are terribly bored .
Lets get into the root cause of the problems. Firstly , the comic scenes fail to evoke mirth .They are childish , irritating and juvenile . The comic situations that arise in the film are absolutely banal and outdated .The actor enacting it (Rajat Rawail) only compounds the problem with his horrible comic timing .
Secondly the romance in the film appears completely superficial. There is no romantic conflict in the film at all .Its like making a mountain out of a mole .Why Kareena does not reveal her identity to Salman remains a complete mystery .Especially that scene in the park where could have easily let the cat out of the bag .In that case this blunder of a movie would have got over much earlier!
Thirdly , the action in the narrative appears totally forced .The original movie was a soft love story without any gimmicks .But here the makers have added action scenes (headache inducing) just to cash on Salman’s current image. Even otherwise the action scenes do not really leave any impact because something similar was seen in Dabangg and Wanted .The Déjà vu effect dilutes the impact totally .
Fourthly the telephone conversation between Kareena and Salman gets unbearable after a point .More than 50 % of the film is filled with their vocal conversation which starts to test your patience .The dialogues too are quite pedestrian and leave minimal impact .
And lastly its hard to believe this was the most awaited movie of the year seeing the tacky frames and production values .Those expecting something grand are sure to be disappointed. The film looks like a low budget flick frankly! It seems the entire film was shot in a quick time frame to meet the Eid deadline!
The twist in the climax also does not really work .The film falls into Kuch Kuch Hota Hain mould at this juncture and gets unnecessarily complicated .Director Siddique does not impress one bit .
Musically the film is quite good but barring ‘Teri Meri ‘ the choreography of all the songs are way too routine and bland .
Salman Khan has been repeating himself from last two years and it has become bit too tiresome to watch him do the same thing again and again .Bashing thousand goons at the same time , jumping from one pole to another without getting injured have become way too monotonous and boring. He repeats his shirtless act yet again without any appeal whatsoever .
Kareena is quite good and looks super gorgeous .She is simply the best we have today .Hazel is decent .
Over all the film is a complete disappointment .The film fails to entertain .You are sure to leave the auditorium with a frown on your face .
Ideally I would have given 1.5 star to this flick but since there is no provision for half a star , I am going ahead with the lower end and give it a one star rating!
