My busy work schedule spilling into late nights, even on some weekends and my wife falling ill for a brief period, prompted me to find a way to do my grocery shopping without having to regularly visit the kirana shops and the supermarkets.
Despite some of the shops in my layout providing home delivery, it was difficult to keep track of what I need to order, when do or did I order.
What time the delivery will arrive, have they got all the items, getting them to accept the 'wrong' items, knowing and remembering the names of the vegetables and staples as the guys on the other side of the phone understands it etc etc, soon made me realise the complexity of a simple task like shopping!
One day on my way to my office, I saw a small delivery 'tempo' with BigBasket name on it and later checked it on the web. I realized they have a mobile app which would come very handy for someone like me and started using it.
Ever since, I have ordered multiple times from them and I am reasonably happy.
Why I like BigBasket ? - You can shop by category or through search, keep adding them to online basket as & when you remember items, can make changes any time before cut off time even after ordering, you get what you see, app is very easy and reliable to use, they have specific time slots for delivery and stick to it, you can pay by card at your door step (no hassle of scrambling for change), saves on time.
NO irritation of waiting in the billing queue, saves on exorbitant parking fees, saves on your transport cost and the most important for me - very responsive customer care focused clearly on instant issue resolution and NO confusing IVR options or waiting time (though I always called them at late evening over weekends; NOT sure if it is the same during weekday/ work hours).
What I would like BigBasket to improve upon ? - Items always delivered in dirty/ dusty condition; absolutely hate it !! >> Sole reason I do NOT order all items from BB; especially fruits & vegetables - Many items NOT in their list -
Two items got delivered on their expiry date (Later rectified/ replacements given) - Found items invoiced at higher value than MRP (Later rectified/ refund given) - Once a hair oil bottle was delivered which had its tamper proof seal removed :( - As I add items to my 'basket' over the days.
I find some running out of stock !! - Delivery guys in tearing hurry as they have too little time for too many deliveries >> They usually come sweating & panting. Pushes them to drive crazy in Blr traffic
Other factors :
I still have NOT trusted them for fruits and vegetables and do NOT think will do that any time soon in future. Personally, I find it therapeutic picking and selecting the greens. Hence, I might be biased.
While BigBasket does NOT completely remove the necessity of visiting a shop for groceries, it has loads of benefits & specially ordering through their mobile app could be particularly useful.
