I just saw this wonderful movie today. This movie, called Big Fish, stars Albert Finney who plays Ed Bloom, who grows up from a curious kid to a father with a million stories to tell his son,his wife, and anyone who will listen. His son,Will, who is played by Billy Crudup, is getting fed up because he has heard these stories so many times and does not want to hear these lies anymore. He doesn't talk to his father for 3 years when he finds his father sick and visits him again.
Ed has many stories including an important one when he was a child, he went into the witch's house, whose eye would tell you how to die. His other friends were terrified and learned how they were going to die, while Ed just looked and smiled, knowing how his time would end.
Ed is a confident, nice man growing up in a small town in Alabama. As he grows up, many obstacles happen. One is that the town has a giant that is eating the crops and animals. Ed decides he must handle this in his own hands. He comprimises with the giant(Carl) and they become friends. Ed decides to take Carl to a circus and as he is on his way, he walks into a mysterious town called Spectre, where a town where everyone is happy and no one wears shoes. Ed stays there for a while, but decides to leave. As he goes to the circus, he sees a woman that he knows he will marry. But the circus manager, Danny DeVito, will not tell Ed who she is, but he will if he works for him. Every month of work Ed works he will learn one thing about this mysterious woman. Ed agrees.
Ed finally meets his love, Sandra, but she is married. But eventually after a fight, she realizes that she does not love her fiance and decides to marry Ed instead. The entire movie is when Ed was younger and growing up. Ed as a senior is sick and is telling these stories to his son, Will's wife who is pregnant.
As he gets sicker and sicker, he tells more of his stories. Will learns that although these stories were not exactly true, but they were based on events that did happen in Ed's life.
As Ed dies, he tells his son that he must die in the river. Will catches on and tells his dying father how they have an adventure getting out of the hospital, and the funeral, with all of the people in his stories are there when he is placed in the water and dies as the big fish. Ed is immortal because his stories are alive. Will's young son is already telling his friends the stories that have been passed down.
This movie had a great plot and excellent acting. It had great guest stars and wonderful twists. I really enjoyed this movie. This movie is a great one to watch with your family. I definitely recommend this movie.
