The promos of the film showcased it as a comic film - another one from a maker like Priyadarshan.
But the initial response of the film didn't seem so.
Then the makers claimed that the film is actually a psychological thriller and people coming in accepting a funny film would be disappointed.
Why would people get the idea that they were going in to watch a comic film, is as good your guess as is mine.
For more than a month the only promotion of the film were funny snippets and an Akshay Kumar video...
In the second week, we anyways decided to go watch it.
What the heck!!!!!!
The film begins with Paresh Rawal and Asrani getting spooked by a haunted house.
Is it really haunted?? Not by the what we are shown. Paresh Rawal gets scared by his own antics ... so there is a half an hour which is gone by.
Thankfully we are sitting in the red lounge munching popcorn and sipping pepsi.
Then come in Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan who have just moved bag and baggage from the US to come stay in the house which actually is inherited by Shiney.
Inspite of several warnings by his Uncle, Shiney refuses to believe what he thinks is an old woman's tale.
He even lets his wife go ahead and open the rooms that have been locked by tantrik babas ages ago.
So the story goes that his great grandfather fell in love with a dancer and locked her in a room and killed her lover. The ghost of that dancer is the one who is haunting the house ... believe it or not in the days as well the nights.
Vidya is one gutsy chick who breaks locks and walks in the room wanting probably to meet the ghost.
The whole distant family moves into the bhoot bangla and tonnes of weird things happen. Shiney on the other hand is confirmed that it is Amisha Patel who is doing thing because he thinks that she is mentally unstable.
The reason for that is quite simple .. she was in love with Shiney ever since and on seeing Vidya of course she is disappointed. And she is his Uncle's daughter. Which only at a later stage is revealed that she is adopted. Oh, that is a relief.. we almost thought we were going the incest way!!
Finally after more than an hour in the film we witness the entry of the hero Akshay Kumar....
A few laughs and fun later, the story again goes back to being weird.
Akshay breaks into a gay song with some kid who's leg he has been pulling.
Blah blah blah later, it is revealed that Vidya is the ghost.
Here is the twist. She is not possessed but is mentally unstable. After hearing stories of the dancer, she starts empathizing and actually subconsciously starts believing that she is the dancer herself.
Nothing different than an old Ramsay film, this film leaves you bored by the end of it.
