I picked up this book mainly coz of its attractive cover page with a woman sitting in a hot seat of a parlour with cocktail in one hand and mirror in the other, 3 men working on her hair, hands, feet, respectively. The story is about a small town girl Georgia who has dreams to be big one day, who has a dream to be a best hair colorist of New York.
With hard work, determination, mother’s support and grace of God she manages to reach there. How, when, with whom, with what all difficulties and probabilities is the story all about. Her mom, Maureen, ran a small but famous beauty salon in the small town. N she was her 1st inspiration I believe. She joins a beauty school, meets and makes friends with Patrick, a handsome gay and soon becomes her bff. Together they both join a coming up beauty parlour Jean-Luc which turns out to be the hottest salon in New York n gradually Georgia becomes its best hair colorist.
In about 10 years she learns the rules of this field, about clients and how to handle them, about bosses and seniors n power n politics. About how if you like some huge brand product you don’t buy it, you just mention it to the person who owns it or his wife and next day morning you will be loaded with not just the thing you complimented but more.
She learnt to be a street smart .She had a decent rappo in the salon. Faith, her 2nd inspiring person probably a motherly figure was the most senior person in the salon. Later, falls in love with Massimo, her colleague who is like a ‘know it all person’. In the end, Massimo, Patrick and herself open their private salon called Maureen’s’… tired and screwed by the way things went on in Jean-Luc. And so where the talent n truth is… the people follow including lot of Jean-Luc staff and clients.
The story ends in a happily ever after fashion where the salon is a hit, Massimo and Georgia get married and in few years have a child.
