A carefree couple stumble on their self-imposed rule –'not to get emotionally attached'.
The film shoots off to a fantastic start, brilliantly maintains the tempo and messes up towards the end. The script though well written fell short of ideas for an impactful finish resulting in a very shoddy execution of screenplay towards the end.
Story: Shyra Gill(Vaani Kapoor) is born and brought up in France. Born to Indian parents who run a successful restaurant in Paris, she is grown up bold and follows her own rules when it comes to sleeping around with her boyfriends. She believes in no emotional attachment and her taste is not in Indian boys. Dharam Gulati(Ranveer Singh) from Karol Bagh, Delhi is a standup comedian and visits Paris to help his brother’s pub attract Indian customers. The problem is that he is a Casanova hunting for girls. Like minds meet and Ranveer and Shyra end up in a live-in relationship which lasts for a year. Though both are not new to break-ups, Shyra turns sober. They still maintain their friendship, but move on to date someone else and are engaged to their respective partners. It is a dare that changes their destiny.
Cast Performance: Ranveer Singh was at his best and Vaani Kapoor was extraordinarily brilliant. It was a pleasure to see their ‘made for each other’ onscreen romance. Their charm, acting and dancing talent was exploited to the fullest. Vaani executed her character of a French National to perfection. No other heroine in Bollywood would have done justice to the character of ‘Shyra’. The entire cast across the board gave an outstanding performance.
Pros: Ranveer Singh, Vaani Kapoor, Direction, Cinematography, Editing, Good Dialogues & Humor, Good music, songs and dance choreography.
Cons: Adulterous lead characters, Karaoke night scene poorly executed, Poor ending.
Songs: All songs were brilliantly shot with great music and mesmerizing dance choreography. The visuals were astounding and complemented the cinematography.
Direction: ‘Befikre’ is Aditya Chopra’s fourth venture as a Producer, Writer and Director. His previous films ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Rabne Bana Di Jodi’ were impressive and highly successful at the box office. Romance forms the core of his script coupled with engaging screenplay. ‘Befikre’ has a strong script with poor finish akin to ending of a masala movie hence does not impact the audience with the ‘WoW’ feeling. However, the content and quality of the product is quite rich.
Conclusion: ‘Befikre’ is an all out ‘Ranveer-Vaani’ mega show not to be missed. In addition to the kissing galore, at the price of a ticket, you are given a tour to exotic locales in France with an engaging storyline and effective comedy. The film run time is around 2 hours 15 minutes. Though the characters may not be appealing, the performances definitely deserve a watch.
