I was like everyone, I loved ice-cream every day after my meals, but as my love for food as medicine grew I knew that sweetness should not co-exist with cream or fat as in ice cream .
How many of you know that John Robbins the son of the founder of baskin Robbins walked off the family business as he did not agree with the way ice cream was made and affected us in terms of health or the way his family business was run .
John is also the author of 9 bestselling books, that have collectively sold 3 million copies, which includes, "no happy cows" .
In my earlier younger ignorant years I have tried the baskin robbins ice cream so many times. I found them silky smooth and more creamier than any amul or any kwality which is mainly cheap vegetable oils frozen not so much dairy .
But as my awareness of whole food grew and I understood the dangers of dairy .i recently gave up on it . That means no animal products any more for me . Just some milk with my tea and coffee and even that is very limited .
No doubt the berry blast or candy floss or banana and honey ice creams served at baskin robbins are too tempting and mouth watering. But for me what goes in my food and where its coming from matters more than that .
When John Robbins Uncle who co-partnered his father in the Baskin Robbins Business, died at 54 of heart attack a very huge man who ate a lot of ice cream, John was distraught with his father and wanted to know if the ice cream had something to do with this . John left his father and his empire and went to the deep woods and settled with his wife in a house made of wood log where he grew his own food.90-95% of his food he says comes from his own farm now .
You will always find that natural sugars called fructose will always co-exist with fiber and not fat yes fiber and not fat. All fruits will be an example of the same . coconuts can be a little sweet sometimes but that's not always the case and the sweetness will be very low .
Most nuts, seeds, avocados and coconuts which are mainly fats will not be sweet .Nature knows what's best for you. Nature designed you to eat fat with fiber/ proteins and not sugars as in nuts and seeds where proteins and fiber will not allow you to consume isolated fats .
Man is extra smart at isolating substances like cream from milk and sugars from sugarcane, sugar beets(mainly gmos) corn(high fructose corn syrup) or coconut sap or any other palm sap or even maple sap(maple syrup) or maybe honey. Little does he realize that he isn't isolating substances but distancing or isolating health away from the body .
Once he has these 2 isolated substances like cream and sugars he makes the most pleasing fake factory foods that we are only supposed to eat maybe a handful of times during festive seasons and not as everyday desserts or a weekly affair .
Salt, sugar and fats are mixed in such proportions to reach a bliss point in terms of taste, sadly many times these ingredients per servings may exceed your daily requirement.for example 24 gms for refined sugar per person per day was decided by WHO.
I know this is debatable but dairy isn't as healthy as has been perceived over all these years . Its been fed to us that milk is a great source of protein and calcium but the research has shown that dairy is what leads to the weakening of bones also called osteoporosis .
There are so many more dangers of dairy .A simple google search or a youtube search should get you there .i don't want the dairy industry gunning for me after this review . I believe cattle milk is the best for its calves not humans . why should one mammal consume the milk of another . The excess use of antibiotics and hormones is no longer a secret to produce more milk from animals . The same gets passed onto the milk that makes your ice-cream.
If john robbins left his father's family business for reasons of ethics and health effects and settled down in the deep woods as a vegetarian . who am I to advocate Baskin robbins especially when I know fats and sugars should not co-exist.
My advice for everyone is .if you need to eat your baskin robbins ice cream add a lot of nuts and more fruit to slow down the blood sugar spike and go easy on the animal fats . Or simply have fruit salad with ice cream .
I can't use the taste as a scale to rate the product.i'm afraid .I will only settle for 2 stars for many aforesaid reasons, especially if it's overpriced.would you agree?
