Barista Lavazza located in the quiet little Alley near Hindustan Park has been one of my all time favorite coffee shops in Kolkata.
Busy Gariahat crossing, traffic jam, hawkers in foothpath, the crowded and ever energetic Singhi Park, among all these exuberance, just take a short left turn on Singhi Park and you are welcomed into the quiet little alley where Barista Lavazza is located.
The joint offers great ambience. In any normal day, you can find a youngster strumming a Spanish Guitar, which is kept at the shop. The shop hosts people from all age group. While I have seen youngsters flocking here merrily, I have also seen school teachers, professors, aged people from the locality and couples all having a good time here.
What does a cafe offer other than food? Countless meaningful strings of conversation! It is this place where I have witnessed some of the most meaningful conversation or "adda" as we call it in my student and early work life. Conversations related, but not limited to life, romance, meaningful cinema, art and music.
The ambience of Barista is such, the colorful wall, the cerebral crowd all around you and the aroma of rich coffee brings out great speakers in you and also strums up nostalgia in this city of palaces. Barista has comfortable seating in air conditioned indoors and also offers outdoor seating, if you prefer.
If you are a coffee person, Barista is the place for you. If you have a sweet tooth, I strongly recommend the Swiss Mocha Frappe, excellent to cool you off in a humid afternoon. It's also the best Swiss Mocha in the city, I opine. If you visit in groups, you can go for the pitcher of frappe, which will be economical and convenient for you. If you like it strong, go for their Espresso. If you like it fruity, go for Mojitos and Smoothies.
Barista also offers good pasta. Enjoy the variety of white sauce or red sauce variety. Go for the Chicken or Veg Calzone for a big bite. Also try their variety of Grilled Sandwiches, Muffins and Cake. My favorite are Blueberry Muffin and Black Forest Cake.
