I decided to buy the 200 NS after a lot of deliberation when I wanted to upgrade from my existing Pulsar 150 DTSI which had served me well for several years. I am writing this review after 6 months and 2000 kms of running. The positives : - The booking and delivery of the bike was a smooth process and the delivery time is much lesser (a week) as compared to many of its competitors.

  • The price is fabulous considering it is a 200 cc bike loaded with contemporary features. In all fairness one should compare the “Percentage” price difference it has over other lesser powered bikes and you will realize that it is total VFM.

  • The looks are eye-catching and definitely gets heads turning on the road. The design is very attractive especially from the front and side view.

  • The ride and handling is much better than its predecessors and is at par with much higher priced bikes.

  • The braking is bang on with the Bybre disks and due to its progressive bite, sudden braking feels safer.

  • The instrument cluster is well balanced with clear visibility and useful features

-Mileage – Although many would argue that it is very important, I feel it is inconsequential due to the cost saving it provides upfront and inquiries from other riders show that for the power available it is very decent.

  • Once you have run in the bike properly the bike’s power and pick up is unmatched. The delivery is linear and once you take it in the higher rev range it goes berserk very few can catch it in the rear view.

  • The even weight distribution, triple spark plug and underbelly exhaust only make the bike better.

The negatives: - The tyres upfront are sub standard and do not give confidence at high speeds and are unstable when braking suddenly. I have upgraded to Pirelli Sports Demons but it may not be feasible for all. However when you upgrade the tyres you appreciate the bike’s potency.

  • The overall bike height is inconvenient for shorter people and if you want to use it as a family commuter the pillion will not enjoy “climbing” up every time.

  • The side indicator switch is tacky and requires some effort (however can be overlooked)

  • The rear mud guard can be removed to improve the looks and to avoid the pillion from getting soiled in the rainy season.

  • The side stand has to be purchased separately (a minor irritant). All in all this bike is value for money and gives the average Indian a lot more for the price. There are definitely bikes out there who have better power (Duke 200), handling (Yamaha R15 2.0) but I think this bike is a great package put together and the money saved in purchasing it is significant. I am sure the flaws noticed would be taken care of in the next iteration.

Viva .......La Pulsar !!!
