My parents had faith in bajaj electrical equipments. So, they purchased this Rotochill model in May 2006. They went against my advice for Kenstar. They were enticed by the rotating louvres present in the cooler. The Kenstar had just left-right-left kind of motorised louvres.
They purchased this product from Patna where the summer ends up after September; and October till mid-March is the winter. So, they used the product only for 5 months in 2006. When they switched-on their cooler in April, 07, they found to their amazement that the water pump needs replacement. They summoned for the bajaj's mechanic and he replaced it. They used it until May, '07 and then they came to live with me for one month. Whey they returned home, they again found that the new water-pump again needs replacement!
Most of the fancy coolers available now-a-days do not have proper protection of water-pump from the tiny water droplets flying inside them when running. This is what eats up the motor. BUT WAIT!
We've a 1994 desert cooler(a Delhi-made tin body fitted with polar exhaust fan and khaitaan water-pump). Till now, it is running fine. We never replaced any motors; except replacing its fan - condensor once(Rs. 60). What more? It does not have any protection for its water - pump. It is just mounted high on a tin - platform with moisture attacking from all three sides. Its motors(both fan's & pump's) have rusted badly; but they still continue working!
I've a little cooler deluxe model of Kenstar. It has been more than a year(in Bangalore) and it never gave me a problem(except the motorised - louvres getting stuck at one position after a year) and is running brilliantly. I never cleaned it once. I only clean its honeycomb and a bit of its tank. When my Parents saw it, they said it is very good and has even more air-thrust than their Big rotochill.
Little about Bajaj's
Sound: Very less
Cooling: Very good
Force of air-flow: better than moderate
Durability: You can make out. Almost all branded air-coolers have this problem. I can't rule-out the possibility of my Kenstar failing some day sooner.
Ease of cleaning: Moderate
