Bachchan is back. The 'Boom'erang returns.
What a sight of relief for all Big B fans to see their fav hero back to his best after that miserable of a film called Boom.
Well the story is quite simple - a bank employee spends all his life giving the best he could to his four sons. When however he retires and wants his children to take care of him and his wife - they shy away. The movie depicts all the incidents and related emotions that the family goes through.
This plot has previously been attempted in many movies - most noticeably Avtaar (Rajesh Khanna, Shabana) and some Raj Kiran films in the 80s. But its the slick direction and the acting of the leading pair that binds the movie together.
Amitabh is great and Hema looks gorgeous. Other younger heroines in the movie fall pale in comparison to her grace and charisma. No offence intended, but even at this age she looks better than Esha!!
The rest of the starcast - esp. Paresh Rawal, Yash Pathak deliver the requisite performance. Direction by Ravi Chopra is good. Music is a treat for Big B fans with around 3 - 4 songs sung by him. The songs dont break the continuity. Not sure why Salman and Mahima were needed to play the goody-goody ideal son and daughter-in-law pair... but nevertheless they play their part well.
Coming to the cons - well the only one big that hits you is that the movie is too commercialised. The movie just falls short of announcing that ''This part of the movie is brought to you by..''. Tata Tea, ICICI Bank, Ford, Archies... are too prominently advertised. Instead of the subtle references, its more of in-your-face ads. Just hoping the trend does not continue .. for me it generates a negative image and guess thats what the rest of the audience felt as well.
To summarise, a good movie. well made and should provide a good family entertainment. Just a note - It gets a bit senti..so the gals might want to keep the kerchiefs ready..
