I cant. Dont know how to do justice to this movie by writing a review. A saga woven around an enchated fantasy world with a thousand colors of floating mountains and neon light plants. A classic storyline about the exploitation of man and where innocence is stamped into the ground with brute force of his greed, of how nature and beings are so interconnected that they form part of one huge data grid, of how life can be much simpler if you could just close your eyes and dream. But you have to wake up sometime. 3D too
AVATAR is classic Cameron, the same guy who gave us Aliens, Titanic, Terminator 1 and 2, True Lies and more. And this Epic Sci-fi Saga will be very well the defining movie of his career and for all of movie making as well.
PANDORA is one of the three moons of the huge planet Polyphemus, orbiting the star Alpha Centauri A, 4.3 Light Years from Earth and where life thrives. The planet is lush, green, tropical rain forest with huge trees and totally jam packed with a fantastic variety of flora and fauna, a mist constantly ligering above the forest. At night the forest comes alive with a variety of plans and animals able to glow in heavenly neon colored lights - pink, purple, violet, green, rose, yellow, red. Its beautiful.
NA'VI: The sentinent beings inhabiting the planet are called Na'vi, a generally peace loving humainods 3 meters tall with beautiful cat-like facial and body features and sparkling skin colored in vatious shades of blue. They are very strong, intelligent, fantastic hunters, lead a social life grouped in clans and have a language of their own. Men and Women Na'vi have long braided'hair' at the edge of which are sort of'fiber optic connectors' using which they can directly bond to other animals and plants and'can function as one'. They live in total harmony with nature which is unspoiled and beautiful. The Na'vi dont like the invaders of their planet who loot and plunder their natural resources and not to mention upset their natural way of life. They are in sort helpless to stop them because of the firepower of the humans whom they call'Skypeople'.
AVATARS: Humans cannot breathe the Pandoran atmosphere and to interact with the Na'vi they have created'Avatars' - Na'vi bodies with human genetic material. The human whose genetic material was used in the Na'vi body can'transplant' their mind wirelessely into the Na'vi body via some kind of advanced technology and can go around as Na'vi while their body sleeps. As soon as the human is awakened the Na'vi body collapses and can be revived only after the human body is put to sleep and the mind uplinked again.
PLOT: 2154. We, humans are done looting our planet and the Earth is dying. A giant mining corporation, RCA, has colonized Pandora and are running a huge high tech mining operation for a metal known as Unobtaininum which sells at 200, 000 dollars per kilo on Earth. The corporation runs the planet operations with an army of ruthless conscienceless trigger happy mercenaries and ex-soldiers who dont have anything in their eyes but greed for more under the control of Col: Miles Quatrich, with huge armed-to-the-teeth helicopter gunships and space ships. Jake Sully(Sam Worthington) is ex-Marine, paralyzed waist down in combat. His brother Tony, now dead, was a scientist with the Avatar program and has an Avatar created for him.
The Na'vi clan Omaticaya lives in an enormous tree abode which sits on huge deposits of Unobtaininum. the corporation wants Jake to assume the Avatar Na'vi body to learn their ways and convince them to move from there. Jake travels to Pandora where he meets other Avatar members Dr. Grace Augustine(Sigourney Weaver) and Norm Spellman(Joel Moore) and assumes his Avatar body. He goes to the forest with a scout team led by Trudy Chacon(Michelle Rodriguez) a hotshot helicoptor pliot but gets lost. After coming across many dangers gets his life saved by a beautiful Omaticaya Na'vi female, Ney'tiri(Zoe Saldaña), who also happens to be the princess of the clan. After many deliberations, the Omaticaya accept Jake into their clan and appoint Ney'tiri to teach him the ways of the Na'vi and train him as a warrior. He passes with flying colors, and even captures and bonds with an'ikran' a kind of colorful fierce flying banshee - his rite of passage for becoming a Na'vi warrior.
With the passage of time he gets more and more drawn to the Na'vi way of life, to their closeness to nature, their happy and simple life and the forests and Pandora. And along the way inexplicably he falls in love with Ney'tiri and chooses her as his mate. And going along he refuses to heed the corporation, as his heart had gone out to the Na'vi.
The humans decide to finish the Na'vi and their beautiful world once and for all. Jake chooses his side and with the help of his human friends wins over the Na’vi with one sheer act of unparalleled heroism. After many twists, the Na’vi of many clans band together for the final battle, to save their world and everything they have.
Watch the movie for the rest: I cant describe it here. One thing I can say: The epic battles are something I have never seen before.
MOVIE: Your Heart goes out to the Na'vi, Neytiri and others. Een though most parts of the movie are CGI rendered, it does not take anything away, but rather adds to it. The storyline and flow intricately woven into the narrative and pace is spellbinding. It will capture and transport you. And wish you were reborn. In Pandora.
Peace!
