Naaaaaaa! they made joke of Ashoka. I am not very good in history, main reason I use to read about it, but I am not doing it anymore since a decade. I am too busy with other things in life(may be its a pretext), so the readings are now more dependent on requirement, that limits them to news or professional interest. There are some here and there but they will not count enough to call me as a good historian. I like to see all these historical figures if casted by the director as a movie. It gives me a nostalgic feeling and keeps me in touch with my old interest.

This movie is not at all a historical figure, just a twisted plot from some ordinary bollywood movie, changed by the directors whims and made into this horrible movie. The dialogues are pathetic, some kadar kahn must have written them, songs are like patches on already bad fabric of the movie. Ashoka does not look like ashoka. He has these comedian brothers, who every ones in while will try to kill him with there funny ways and fail and then they will sit together and like a bunch of jokers break some poor dialogues and the suddenly the head joker (Sharukh Khan) will enter, make some bigger funny jokes and will prove that he is a bigger joker than others. As far as I know Ashoka, he was ugly but very ambitious, he was ferocious and people use to be afraid of him. He killed all his brother to get the thrown, and there is no twist in that. He was violent, mean and a dark charcter. still he was charismatic, he made country to grow, people were happy and prosperous in his kingdom. He has ambition to bring the whole India together and to become the biggest king in history. He knew, its a power game where you have to kill or die.

This ashoka is just funny, he is a joker. The sword does not fit into his personality. A couple of songs are with hummable tune. I was surprised to see the new generation bars in the era of Ashoka with just a little rugged look. The song 'aja aja chal tayar hoja' was funny. (hahahaha)

Coming to Koruwiki, I dont know much of her character but she cant be like Karina Kapoor. THat character never shown the elements of a lady who lead a whole mighty army of Kalinga. Let me remind you with little knowledge about history, that this era was the golden era in Indian history. The Indian Empire was expanded till Iran. Ashoka was a mighty king and still they were afraid of touching Kalinga. These characters are legendry, not a thing to be mocked about. I was expecting, if not something like BraveHeart or Gladiator, but atleast something respectable. Old time movies when the technology was not that advance were much better. I remember Amrapali with Sunil Dutt and Vijyanti mala, it was a class movie. Even Hemamalani's attempt of Rajiya Sultan was appreciable. Hey the movie Mugala Azam, made about ~50 years back was much better quality. If someone of you have seen the serial Bharat Ek Khoj, with such a low budget, Om Puri as Ashoka was much more convincing and has shown the character of Ashoka quite well.

This movie is a disaster. I dont know where they spent all the money, as I know this movie was very expensive. They have hardly shown anything, where money is spent.
