Hi All
I thought of writing a travelogue of my traveling adventures. Hence I thought of something which is ''Grand'' in every-sense.
Before going into details, this is the place where you can see a Brahma's Temple, besides Pushkar, Rajasthan.
What is this grandeur place called as?
Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon is one of the widely visited tourist spots in US. Since Arizona is pretty close to California and easily accessible via road, it brings in a lot of tourists. Another advantage is that Las Vegas, Nevada is just 4 hours away if you hit the road.
One fine day in 1998, some of my friends asked me where to go for the ''Thanksgiving Weekend'' holidays. Without a hesitation, I said Grand Canyon. We laid out a plan to hit the road journey from Denver to Grand Canyon.
Grand Canyon, is one of the natural wonders of the world. This has so much history behind it. This park is located in northern Arizona. It encompasses 277 miles of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands, which are the beautiful canyons. Grand canyon is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world.
I went to Grand Canyon from Las Vegas which took me to the south rim of the canyon, along with my friends. The North Rim—1,000 feet (305 meters) higher than the South Rim—is cooler and wetter and is heavily forested. But the south Rim is more crowded than the North Rim.
As we reached late so we hitched up for the night. There are a lot of good hotels near the Park for which reservations should be made atleast a month before you start to get reasonable rates.
Expect crowds during the spring, summer, and fall months. During these months reservations for camping and lodging are essential. The next day we set out to see the sunrise after having confirmed the time of the sunrise from the hotel desk. We reached Yavapai point to find crowd already waiting for the sunrise. But then in the early morning light we were enthralled by the beauty of the Grand Canyon.
After having seen the sunrise and having spotted the various canyons we headed back to the hotel to get set for the day. We were taken aback by the names that were given to those canyons…There were Shiva temple, Vishnu Temple, Zoroastrian temple, Buddha temple etc. We went to the east rim and then the west rim. Through the day the grandeur and spectacle of the canyons took us. The light falling on the canyons created magical colors.
You can even go for hiking down the trails, which adds to the adventure in the trip. Many tourists go on guided tours to the bottom of the canyon and camp there and take some treacherous trails to get down and get back. But we could not do that due to the shortage of time.
In the evening we were taken to the sunset point by shuttle that takes us till that point. We reached there and waited for the sunset enjoying the beauty of the canyons in the lights of the evening.
The sunset was a feast to the eyes by itself in the beauty of the canyons. After having seen that we made our way back to hotel where we were told that the I-max theater. We went there to go on yet another journey of the canyons.
The next day we headed back.still enthralled by the dramatic interplay of changing lights and shadows which we saw in the Grand Canyon.
After this visual splendor, we headed straight to an engineering wonder and a man-made wonder in a place called ''Las Vegas, Nevada''. The engineering wonder is ''Hoover Dam''.
Rest about them in my next Review.
Hope you liked it. Please feel free to add your comments.
Have a nice day!!
