“ Education is an arch to build upon “

With reference to the above adage ,I’am not going to waste your time explaining to u the importance of education in todays world.

Indigenous or foreign education , whatever it may be depends upon the university you plan to graduate from as well as the field of specialization.

Without wasting any time, let me put some steps as to how to go about a foreign education:

1] choosing the area of specialization.

Be a chooser!!! Do not plan your studies just for the sake off going abroad..But try to go deep in to your interest. The subject chosen must go very much in parallel with your past area of study, else you may find it diffcult to get an offer from the university. If your plan of intended specialization does not go with your past academics, then you must provide a supporting to the university as to why such deviation in your plans at the age of 21 plus. For instance:- you can show a well executed project done by u or thru Statement of purpose. The latter is mandatory irrespective of the country you prefer to graduate in.

2] choosing the country…

Well… the distance between countries are reduced to agreat extent..so the problem of being away should not be your problem..following things must be taken into notice :-

A] Affordability :- studying in USA seems to be comparatively cheaper tham studying in U.K. because of the exchange conversionas well as the cost of living.

B] Scope :- generally the country in which u intend to pursue ur studies must have more than enough scope for ur intended area of specialization..This very essential as ur degree must give enough returns after completing the studies…

C] Bias :- do not select the country by having a bias in ur mind..Keep the above 2 points in mind…b’cos some of ur friends may be in U.S.A so even u wud like to pool into that country… without doing any research as to the scope of your course in that country….Have an open mind…..

3] Which are the exams u gotta give????

Frankly, this portion does not require a big r&d to be done ..

I can put it in straight lines :-

A] USA:-

1] if you arean engineer going for masters u need to give ur gre and toefl.both are computer based

2] if u are a commerce student going for masters ,then mostly ur line of study would fall under school of business and economics…this is not mandatory but 90 % of the time it is like that ,then u have to give your gmat and toefl.

3] If u plan to go for an MBA degree then u have to give your gmat and toefl

B] UK

In case of UK students need not give gre or gmat all they want from u si to show that u are proficient in English..which we Indians are always…..So we need to give atest called IELTS..this is an English proficiency test similar to toefl…

C] Australia and New Zealand

For masters we need to give IELTS and for an MBA we need to give GMAT and IELTS.

Remember,if u plan to go for an MBA ,then irrespective of the country u plan to go it is always better to have a minimum 2 years of fulltime work experience in the relevant field of study….Articleship\apprenticeship is not counted as work experience..so don’t be confused and keep asking people. This is very staright forward..

4] Selecting the university :-

OM SHREE GANAPATHAYE NAMAHA!!!!!!

This is the toughest part ……..so the above prayer for all of us….First and foremost u must visit the education center of ur intended country where u plan to study …for instance

UCEFI – for America and IDP – for Australia…

Becoming a member of that center will help u a lot in your documentation as there are professionals sitting there just to help and they are very kind and courteous..you can bother then to any extent thru mails or telephone calls….

It is possible to obtain a list of universities offering your intended course … You will even get the latest rankings…

And the college websites…

Follow the steps :-

1] go to the college site, click on the link of ur intended course, check their requisites for applying ..for instance the application fee, exams required, academic requirements, application deadline,no.of international students….

2] The Aid factor :- All of us want to study for free..This is known as Aid \ scholarship…Check if the university wud offer u an aid and if yes wa are the requisites for it..for intsnace do they need any kind of a project from the student etc…To be very frank,it is difficult for non-technical background people to get an aid unless u are applying for a doctorate ….

3] Curriculum and duration of the course:-

Check out if the curriculum goes in parallel with what u want to do and the duration of the course..an average masters program takes about 18 – 24 months without having thesis as your option….

4] Consider factors 1,2 and 3…shortlist the universities,

get hold of an admission officer or a professor ,keep mailing them as to ur profile and to know more about the college..their guidance will help you decide as to whether u are eligible to apply to that university…

5] Once u have shortlisted the univs,go ahead and apply confidently …following are the list of academic documents that are required

a] SSc marksheet and passing certificate

b] hsc marksheet and passing certificate

c] Bachelorate marksheet, passing certificate, leaving certificate and convocation certificate

d]Transcripts of bachelorate

e] post grad marksheet and certificate

f] certificates of any computer course or of any projects

g] work experience certificate

h] 3 letters of recommendation [academic or employers]

I] statement of purpose

6] fill in the application form [most of the schools have it online-thru credit card payment],send ur application materials to the schools and wait for the response

7] The documentation must be so well done that they shud not have an opportunity to ask for more documents..all the documents must be duly attested and certified

Following were some of the steps that I know ,cud be of gr8 help to u……

“All the best for your fututre aspirations and Goals!!!”
