America On Line is an overpriced, overrated internet service provider. The quality of their service is no where near what you pay for. The perks they offer are similar things that you can get from a less-expensive provider.
The problem began when AOL grew to massive proportions that everyone became part of it. As people add on and subsequently drop out, the available screen names drop. You have to settle for names like: Chris080980584520, or more fancier ones like King5059814-300.
Then there is the problem with the chat rooms, which apparently is full of either perverts, or teens with some amazing lingo. Hackers and computer experts gain control of the service, so the rooms are full of people infiltrating and showing off their stuff.
Staying away from chat rooms apparently is harder. After two minutes you'll get a bunch of unwelcomed IM's. By the time you get annoyed with the whole thing, you get timed off.
Then when you get timed off, against your will, they will tack on an extra 10 minutes as they add on some artwork, or update their stuff. Truly this is a waste of time.
People who got tired from the poor service thought that they will get some recourse by speaking to a customer service representative. But this is another problem. Apparently, their system is full of machines that you wont actually get to a live person until a new version comes out two months later. Then the person will tell you about the new version.
I think that they are up to version 10.0 now. I'm glad I left when I did. I''m much happier now without it.
