I am a foodie and has visited most of the restaurants in Chennai. But never seen any worst restaurant than Anjappar in Chennai. I have been to their Egmore, Chrompet and Nungambakkam branches. There service is pathetic. The servers behave like they are serving free food to us and doing a social service. They simply don't show any respect to the customers.
I have never ever faced any health problem by eating food from outside in Chennai. I have been to Anjappar only four times. Out of this, three times I suffered from bad stomach after having food from there. My friends who accompanied me also got sick.
Story will not be complete without telling my experience on their Egmore branch. I went there for lunch and it was NOT much crowded as it was only 12:40 in the noon. I had to wait in the table for 15 minutes for a server to attend me and take my order. Normally when you order a meal in other restaurants, it will be served almost immediately becuase there is no preparation involved. But it took another 10 minutes for these Anjappers to server the meal. No, it is not because I went earlier and food was not ready. There were some people already having their meals.
Another night I wanted to order a home delivery for my family and called the Chrompet branch. There was nobody to pick the call till I rang them for the third time. The guy on the otherside said they will deliver only if the order is more than for Rs 500. This was never mentioned in the their ad and most of the restaurants will happily do a free delivery even for orders worth Rs 200.
I have to admit one thing that their menu is good. But items are very spicy. Service is poor in these three branches. I don't know about the others. My advice to you is stay away from such crap restaurants and have good food from somewhere else.
