Set in England, this book is closely modeled after the power struggle in Russia that came about after the Revolution. Orwell uses animals instead of people to illustrate the effect of power on people. Animals are ill-treated at a farm so they revolt against the owner and create their own farm, Animal Farm. The new farm functions quite well initially and the animals are seemingly content, but the pigs, who assume leadership after the revolution, are power-hungry. Snowball is the pig who wishes the good of the farm. Napoleon, another pig, wishes to just gain a lot of power. Napoleon, like Stalin, wins the struggle. The farm is eventually taken over by the owners. Absolute power does not last, although some may argue that Stalin's did last.
