There was no way he could agree! I could visualize my Bhabhi waiting at the airport in Nairobi. After all, my brother was supposed to reach there. But somehow, he was not in the mood of traveling. And there we were, trying to make him understand why he should catch the very flight he was adamant on missing. Finally, exasperated, we gave up! And that was when our local cable man showed the movie- Andaz Apna Apna. Within minutes, my brother's mood had changed. We laughed our hearts out. Just as the movie ended, he announced his decision to leave for Kenya, and we all made a rush to the airport.

That next day, my brother and Bhabhi met at Nairobi, after a period of three years.

THE REVIEW

An able director like Rajkumar Santoshi, a dedicated actor like Aamir Khan, a master baboon called Salman Khan, a super comedian called Paresh Rawal(that too in a double dose), and a comedy film in the stands...that in a nutshell is Andaz Apna Apna.

The film opens with a highly romantic cycle ride, with our hero Amar giving a lift to the celebrated actress Juhi Chawla. There romance just starts flowering up when we see Amar waking up from his dream. Then starts the world of reality which is funnier than the dream.

Amar is the son of a barber, who dreams of making it big. He believes in his ability to dazzle people...and this includes his poor father, who is terrified every time his son decides to give him a good news.

On the other hand, we have Prem, an idiot, who believes that he can make it big in the film world, and in the process, is hell bent on spending his father's last penny to see his dream come true.

Enter Raveena Bajaj, the daughter of a UK-based multimillionaire Indian, Ramgopal Bajaj. She comes to India, accompanied by her companion Karishma, to find a suitable husband for herself. Both Amar and Prem see the opportunity of their lifetime if they can get her to marry them. And this is how they set out to capture the heart of the lady...Amar after selling his father's barber shop, and Prem after selling his father's house. Both these clowns meet on the bus.

After getting rid of all the other contestants, they decide on trying their luck. Thus begins a competition between two clowns as to who can woo the cash booty. But things aren't as easy as it seems. In the backdrop looms a danger called Shyamgopal Bajaj alias Teja, the criminal who is a twin to Raveena's father. He wants to take over the wealth of his brother, and the only way he can see it happen is by killing Raveena, the heiress to the fortune. He has cleverly fitted his two henchmen Robert and Bhalla to do the honours. However, both of Teja's men are always goofing up. To add to the excitement, there is also Crime master Gogo.

Does Teja succeed in his plans? Whom does Raveena marry? To find all these answers, go for this movie.

THE PERFORMANCES

Of course, Aamir Khan as Amar, and Paresh Rawal as Teja take the cake. Though Mr.Rawal has done an okayish job as the double, Mr.Bajaj, still, his projection of the frustrated criminal Teja is just out of this world.

Salman Khan as Prem does a hilarious job. Karishma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Javed, Viju Khote and Shehzad Khan support the film very well.

Shakti Kapoor as crime master Gogo will remain etched in your memory for his cameo role.

THE CREDITS

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, this film was produced by Vinay Kumar Sinha.

The lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri, tuned to the music of Tushar Bhatia, are bound to give you memories of yesteryears. The songs are choreographed by Saroj Khan.

The film is edited by V.N.Mayekar.

IN CONCLUSION

The film was a super flop.
