The best thing about Staying at Ajantha is the view it provides of the sea, though you can only see one side of it, the view is still great and the price you pay for it is not to steep considering the rates for the other hotels and resorts in the beach front, Ajantha is literally less than 5 meters off the beach road.
The second best thing is the attached balcony to enjoy this view from, which comes with a table and chairs setup. The room I stayed in was the sea view deluxe room, the layouts of the other rooms are different, so you might want to check them out yourselves. My stay there was during a weekday so I was able to just walk in and get one of the sea facing rooms, which is not usually the case during weekends so book in advance.
The rooms are well maintained and the service staff are courteous to even late night requests for food, water or cool drinks, which in pondy is very hard to find after 11PM. I don’t really remember the exact time that Ajantha closes its kitchen(Maybe they serve through the night, better to check these things before booking) but I believe it was at least an hour past midnight when they served us our last order.
The food provided here is decent and not very pricey, but the ideal way to go is to buy tandoor / gravy items from a little restaurant nearby called “Salt N Pepper”(the staff will let you know the address) and get fried rice .etc served hot from Ajantha’s kitchen.
The only thing that didn’t score so well in the room I stayed in were the bathroom accessories that were provided, the hand shower, the overhead shower etc could have definitely done with some repairs or replacements. That being said the bathroom itself was well maintained so I guess I can’t complain too much.
The price is decent, not very cheap but not too costly either but the major contributing factor to the price is the view of the sea. The off sea rooms come at nominal rates and are great considering the location of the place.
The staff at this place deserves special mention because during a weekend visit a few days later, I was not able to book Ajantha in advance and worse still ended up arriving at pondy past 11PM. Out of sheer dRajeev_Vermaration to find food(we were absolutely ravenous, having had nothing to eat the entire day). I ended up calling Ajantha although I wasn’t staying there and was happy to have called because even though they could not provide food I was helped in seeking out likely places that might still offer food.
I only recently got to know that the check out at Ajantha is at 12:00 Noon, when I stayed there I was in a hurry to leave in the morning so that was fine but I don’t know how well that works out for people who plan to leave pondy in the evening.
So if you’re looking to just hang out and relax for a couple of days then Ajantha is a great place to do it in. Find it at:
